Now I feel that people are mad at me, but I have worked as an RN in this country for too many years to even keep track of. And have seen how times change and what the government has done because of it. If I did not beleive in foreign nurses working here, why in the world would I spend this much time helping you to pass the exam, and get petitioned to come here. And I have seen times here when we had an abundance of nurses and there were no jobs to be had, and when there were no foreign nurses given visas for several years.

Do not expect that to be the case, or I would have said so. The biggest issue right now has to deal with the number of nurses that wish to work in the US, and there are only a certain number of visas available (when they are.) It has never been an unlimited number of visas available. And currently there are more with approved I-140s then there are going to be visas, no matter what they do.

But you still have to look at it with two view points, not just one that you want the visa.

And next if any of you have been waiting several years, then that is something that needs to be discussed with your agency or attorney, as it means that things were held up on their end for sometime.

During the time of the last retrogression not too long ago, those from countries other than the PIC were in the US in a matter of months and with the green card in hand. Several from the UK had their initial petition submitted in February, and were in the US by August/September with green cards and ready to work.

So please so do not blame it all on the government here, but look at the agency that was/is petitioning you. It should never have taken three years and still be waiting. There was some screw-up someplace.

Noiw I feel that people are mad at me

Suzanne, never ever told that! Without your advices many of these people stayed right in their countries and worked part-time or for less than 7$ per hour, and many of them will not ever dream that they could be an USA RN. So...USA health and immigration policy is one, foreign RNs vision related it is another one. Let's time to make the plays!

I agree with Suzanne,

It is not the government... usually the agencies use para legals and then an attorney would sign off on the documents. This leaves it open for more mistakes... and if you take a look at previous postings this has happened many times over. Then the other issue is the attorney must also be reading all the requirements on a regular basis... to make sure they are submitting all the correct information and documents in the correct format. An example would be that immigration now asks for the long form birth certificates not the short form they want to check parentage and history...(for security reasons) I had mine returned to me because of this. It took four months to get the long form from Canada.

Canada is backlogged right now, because we all now need a passport to travel to the USA (this was not a requirement previous to Sept 11) We must all abide by the requirements that the USA puts in place. We want to come and live here and work here so we must all follow the rules. Some agencies are good (just remember always they are making money for placing you ) and many just like to hold back paperwork, many will petition you just to get you locked down and then market you like any other commodity to various hospitals. So if they delay the process they can bring people in as they need them. However they are not going to tell you that.. they will put the blame out there anywhere but on themselves. There are people here right now that are sitting in apts waiting four and five months to start work because some agency has not got a contract to place them and they won't release them from the contracts. They are caught between a rock and a hard place because they are not earning money but they are spending their own money to live. This is wrong of the agency but most people are afraid to report them.. So I feel that Suzanne is trying to tell you the whole story not just what someone wants to hear... truth is painful sometimes, but you all need to know everthing, not just part of it..

We have seen many horror stories and I truly the purprose of this website is to provide you all with the correct information so that you can make educated and informed decisions about future. Suzanned sincerely cares and just wants your transition here to the USA as smooth as possible.

let's just wait and see what happens on their comprehensive immigration reform, a few more days to go, patience and prayers my fellow foreign nurses. God Bless to us all.

I still am not understanding with this update on Wednesday. Immigration issues first need to go thru the House of Representatives and the Congress before they even get to the White House. So whatever the White House is saying right now, is far from a done deal. Very far from it.

Whatever they are stating right now, actually has no bearing on what will come out of Congress and House of Representatives. There are those that right now will do anything to keep Bush from getting his way. And they are the one that give the votes that count.

Whatever the WH comes out with is just their position but has no bearing on anything right now. This is what most of you are not understanding.

I know Suzanne I appreacate everything you say even if it sometimes isn't what I want to hear, I think this is normal reaction and the waiting does get to you but have decided recently to stop thinking about it. It will happen when it happens and with all the delays I have gone through I suppose a little more wait won't hurt me. I am fully aware the US have other issues and we should always remember that, just like the UK and other countries have their own issues more important than others

I wait patiently with you SD and am also one of those who is truly grateful for the help & advice that Suzanne has given me.

I'm lucky to have a nice job, a wonderful family & a really fantastic best friend (who sent me a beautiful bouquet of flowers for nurses day!) I do hope the waiting ends soon but I'm totally enjoying myself in the meantime.

Do not worry about it. They are already multi-tasking on these diff. issues as it is. Not every Senator and Congressman are directly responsible for certain issues. All others not directly responsible can only voice their opinion and of course vote on it come voting time.
Everything has a schedule. You can check out their respective websites and see their schedules. It's full. The schedule for CIR is on this last 2 weeks of May and there have been intense behind the doors negotiations for almost everyday for the last 2 mos. CIR also involves homeland security issues so they also consider this Bill a priority and this is also the reason why they are taking time to do it right. Just look at the 6 proponents in the Fort Dix case. 3 are illegals and 1 or 2 are working w/ a green card.
Let's just wait what happens in Wednesday.

You said it in correct way...All issues has got correct places...that should be the way....Not blaming foreign nurses with questions 'y r u coming to my country'....such style of answering is not good for a sup moderator..

I do not want to be taken as beign negative, but when someone complains on how we do things in the US, the way Washington does things; they need to seriously rethink if they really wish to work here.
Sure, there are things that we do not like at times, but our security is still number #1 on everyone's list. And that is the most important thing to every American right now.
Foreign nurses do not have anything to do with security.

What u mean..?If I want to work in US, I cannot make any complaints about US goverment..? There are plenty of people in here Uk as well as in world who critisise US goverment policy and still like to come their....That is democracy....that is normal....What is the content of film 'Fahrenheit9/11..? So, Michael Moore is not allowed to live in US..?

i dont think people are angry with you, why would they be its not your fault!!! there are lots of different factors as to why this has happened, and continues to go on for so long, its not just the fault of the government

people are frustrated by the present situation because, nothing appears to be happening

im sure everyone is very greatful for all that you do
