This is just for the purpose of getting updated or informed and do note that nothing is absolute and in fact things are very fluid or volatile when it comes to immigration matters.

"big issues going on in washington right now, with funding for iraq war at the head of all of it. now they are approving funding just to july, and then the arguments will start all over again, so that may delay things with immigration."
what a government....!!! when one issue raised up, they forgets all other issues...why, american government cannot handle more than one issue at a time...???
will wait till wednesday....and see...

There are always things that come up, no matter where you live in the world. Things are always changing. Tornadoes hit, and interfere with the status quo. And we saw an entire city flattened this past week.
Again, there are issues at hand that are more important than a visa for a foreign nurse. It is not high on the list here for many, as it does not influence them.
You need to be realistic on this.
And I am not sure what you mean by waiting until Wednesday, the wait is going to be much longer. And as we have already stated, there are more that have had I-140 approval than there are visas is they go with the re-cap bill.

but then i have a question for you? if you do not like the way that our government does things, why are so determined that this is where you wish to live and pay your taxes to? makes no sense to me.
this is how things work here, if you do not like it, you are free to work where ever you wish in the world. you have probably selected the us because you know that you will get recoginition for being an rn and be able to support your family and provide for them. but that is the same thing that many others wish to do as well. and the number of nurses that wish to do that exceeds the number of visas that are available per year. there is nothing written in stone somewhere that more visas need to be created, if you think about it. currently rns are under the eb-3 category, a place that they have always been under, and any other professional in that category has had to wait 5 years or so. this is not anything new. sure there have been periods when nurses have been expedited the past three years; but this has not been always, only for the last few years, and only with a certain number of visas for that. it has never been unlimited and never think that it will be.
there was nothing that kept you from applying a few years ago, and then you could have had a visa already. so please, do not try to put all blame on my country.
timing is everything.
I am really really depressed .
Reading all those posts make me feel aweful. EB3 and up to 5 years - I do not know what to make of this. I am living in the US but on a dependant Visa (H4) and to know that it could be another x years. I consider to move back to Europe because I can't be another years dependant here with no hope that things will change soon.

do not worry about it. they are already multi-tasking on these diff. issues as it is. not every senator and congressman are directly responsible for certain issues. all others not directly responsible can only voice their opinion and of course vote on it come voting time.
everything has a schedule. you can check out their respective websites and see their schedules. it's full. the schedule for cir is on this last 2 weeks of may and there have been intense behind the doors negotiations for almost everyday for the last 2 mos. cir also involves homeland security issues so they also consider this bill a priority and this is also the reason why they are taking time to do it right. just look at the 6 proponents in the fort dix case. 3 are illegals and 1 or 2 are working w/ a green card.
let's just wait what happens in wednesday.

because for most americans, or for that matter the world at large, the iraq war is a much bigger, much more pressing issue than new visas. and given current national antipathy toward immigration issues, politicians are not going to press an issue of authorizing visas when there are stories out about illegals or for that matter, legal immigrants breaking laws, and commiting crimes.
while the vast majority of those that wish to immigrate, are wonderful law abiding people, the news has had more stories about the lawless ones. and when americans are faced with issues, the issue of taking care of our soldiers/protecting american lives while they are fighting abroad is going to greatly outweigh the issue of granting visas to bring more foreign workers in.
for politicians to think or act otherwise, would end their political career.
Lawrence i thank you for your positive and informative views it is easy to be negative but reading your threads always makes me feel positive and informedDo not worry about it. I do not want to be taken as beign negative, but when someone complains on how we do things in the US, the way Washington does things; they need to seriously rethink if they really wish to work here.
Sure, there are things that we do not like at times, but our security is still number #1 on everyone's list. And that is the most important thing to every American right now.
Foreign nurses do not have anything to do with security.

yes thankyou very much, you are a ray of sunshine :)
we know that the nurses are not the government prioity, but when its all you have thought about for 3 years and all you want in the world then its pretty important.
some people may like being separated from their families/home or feeling unsettled, unable to plan things, buy things etc, personally i dont, which is why all this waiting is so hard, im sure there are many on here who understand how we all feel, at the end of the day im sure most on here dont care about the rest of it all, we just want our visas!!!!!!
good luck to us all
I also do find it rather discouraging some of the comments posted on this thread. I thought it was supposed to be informative and not a place where people get upset by frustrations foreign nurses are expressing. The comments I have read are not an attack on US government policy. Quite honestly this country is made up of immigrants but today it is very difficult to immgrate to the US unless you are deemed as a refuge. I am lucky since I am Canadian since I can get temporary work visa through the TN Visa but would also like a more permanent solution since we do love it here. And unfortunately my husband has a difficult time getting work authorization and is not currently working because of it. When I talk to Americans about our situation they are truly shocked and have NO idea that it is so difficult. So when comments are made that a foreign nurse is nobody's priority my patients would beg to differ. They are definitely thankful people like me not only came to this country to get trained and paid 3x the cost of an American to do so, but are now contributing members to the US economy. An asset to this country.

Look back at what Bush stated. In his previous interviews, everything was talking about signing something in August. Now he is hoping that something gets passed this year. Big difference in how he is stating things.

And as mentioned above, if they recap unused visas, there are already more that are waiting than there are actual visas. Remember that dependents have been counted in those numbers, so even with the 50,000 that became available last time, it only came out to less than 20,000 nurses and physical therapists. Remember that the PTs were also under Schedule A in the past.
