i don't spend too much time there these days. I've made it pretty well known that they should trust my judgement and if i send the kid back that's "soooo sick" it means i have no reason to send them home at that point. They know better than to make me their behavioral dumping ground at this point.
Someone said that you don't want to tick off 3 people in a school -the custodian, the secretary and the nurse.

I gave up today and sent one home who I doubt was really ill. I just did not have the energy to fight the child or teacher on it. I saw this kid and her sister today, both drama queens crying. Found out their mom is home sick (she did sound bad). Neither of them have signs of illness, just vague complaints and tears. Can you say "want to be home with mama syndrome"? I just gave up. Sent the older one home for headache, even though she skipped breakfast, no fever, etc. Sent the younger one back to class (I am not sending a kid home for wrist pain, even on my worst day!)

I am in the principal doghouse. I cover two schools K-6, 7-12 and am primarily at the 7-12 all day except for about 30-45 min. I have been at the K-6 school for the last 5 years. My principal at the K-6 school has been mad all year about this situation and has been really ugly to me. This is her 2nd year as principal and I did not have a good year last year because of her. The matter was decided by our central office and I just try to do what I am told. Yes I do realize they have alot of meds to give and they have epi-pens but I am only across the street. Half of the time they do not call me if there is a problem.(had a student fall hit his head and did not know where he was- hospitalized later same evening with a 2nd degree concussion) I found out about it in town. I asked her to help pay to send me to a conference and was told that she had to pay for custodial out of her general fund and did not have the $75. I am really wishing today that I could just go home and not come back!!!!! She is very nice as long as she is getting her way. So I doknow how it feels to be in the doghouse!!!!!

I'm about to join you in that doghouse. I just left a memo on my principal's desk about a teacher calling a parent to come pick a child up who I had already seen and cleared. The parent stated that the child complains of stomachaches when he does not want to go to school. I agreed that there is no sign of illness. Parent went home without kid, I am happy to report, and teacher is BUSTED! I have had suspicions that she has done this in the past, now I have proof. Now I am just waiting for the fertilizer to hit the ventilator (as I saw someone else on AN so eloquently put it!!) Make room for two in that doghouse, Praiser!

Ohhhh! That chaps my hide!!!:angryfire I have one teacher who calls the parents to have them bring in medicine-- they show up at my desk saying "Sally is sick?? She needs Tylenol??? Well, Mary called me....."

Are you really in the doghouse???
Personally, I think you are "the only one at your school with half a brain house"
I stay there all the time and proud of it........not matter what the rest of the staff thinks.
Welcome!!!!!!

I had a teacher do this to me not long ago, she had sent the child to me twice, I called and spoke to mom both times and she said she wanted the child to stay at school unless they had a fever or symptoms. After I sent the child back to class the teacher ever so politely brings the child to my office and says i will call his mother what is her number, I told her that she could get that on her own since she was the one being the medical professional, and maybe I should go down the hall and teach her class cuz she was doing my job. my principal over heard this from her office and wanted to know what was going on so I told her that I was taking the rest of the day off because the school didn't need my professional medical opinion because the teacher was the one calling the shots. The principal was HOT! so was the teacher, she has not questioned me again.
