I'm never gonna make it!

Nursing Students Pre-Nursing

Published

I had a counselor appointment today with a new one (because the one I was going to before was not helpful and discuraged me a lot) So I told this new counselor I want to get into nursing, she looked at my grades and basically said that I might not make it and to look at other options :crying2: She said I need A's and in order to be considered competative, I need to be a B+ average student. I'm about to do CNA and she said that that wont help because its mostly GPA that they looked at.

I want this with all my heart and if I don't make it, I rather do nothing :bluecry1:

Don't EVER let anyone tell you that you can't do it!!!!!!!!! I was a horrible high school student and change the whole thing around now in college. If you truly want to be a RN, you can be a RN!!!!!!!!!!!!! DON'T YOU GIVE UP!!!!!!

Is your Advisor the one who admits the students into the Nursing school? I am currently in a Nursing program and I got in with a 4.0 GPA and a very high TEAS score. I personally know students in the same program that got in with a low GPA and a horrible TEAS score. So don't be discouraged. Never let anyone else tell you that you can't do it or that you are not capable.

I actually think the counselor is doing you a huge favor. If your grades aren't good enough, why get your hopes up? With the information she has now given you, you need to figure out what to do. You have a couple of choices. You can give up. You can apply anyway and hope for the best. You can just apply to different schools. Or, you can work to get your GPA up to par for that school. That will mean retaking some classes, and buckling down.

There are people at my school applying to the RN program with 2.5 GPAs. This is the lowest needed to apply. The school is turning people down with 3.9s. It's doing these students a disservice to not warn them that they probably won't make it.

An advisor is suppose to give you alternatives on how to reach your goal. Fire your advisor! thats all I got to say.

just wanted to share this. :)

I had an advisor tell me that I should look into a new career because my pre-req. grades were not going to let me into a nursing program. I am still in shock until this day that an academic advisor told me to pretty much give up on my dreams. It is POSSIBLE. I am currently in a nursing program, but it will continue to be an uphill battle to get where you want to be. Never let someone discourage you from what you want to do. Deep down, you know what you have to improve on to be successful. Best of luck.

Ok so for this college I'm going to, if I retake a core pre requisite like Micro/physio/anatomy it reducess my GPA by .33

I already retook anatomy and got a B (so my GPA is now reduced) If I retake anymore classes my GPA will be very low.

I currently have an 88% in physiology (I can bring it up to an A) I have a B in physio lab and a C in Micro (I can bring it up to a B) my GPA is like a 3.2 if I end up with an A in physio, B in lab, B in micro it will be a 3.4 minus .33=3.1

I want to apply at other collages but since I don't have straight A's, I'm afraid that wont do. I'm not giving up, I just feel upset when people tell me I won't make it

If you feel that nursing is your passion, continue to pursue it. If you're able to relocate, you have the flexibility to move where YOUR school is. :) (A friend of mine just drove off to Illinois, from CA, because he got into a program...finally!) :)

Good luck to you!

It has already been said a million times but i will say it again. Dont give up. You can do this. I felt the same way you do at one point until i realized that the only person that has contol over me is ME ! No matter what anyone says you can do/be anything you want to be. Follow your dreams. I am currently trying to get into a few nursing programs. I do not have all A's and a perfect 4.0 GPA but im still going on. It seems that the end is so far away but i know my victory is right around the corner. Just know that im in your corner and rooting for you 100% YOU CAN DO IT !!! God Bless !!

You can do ALL things through Christ that strengthens you :)

I feel the same way......and I was told to retake classes and this and that....I did everything they told me.....and Im still being told to have a 4.0..... I have a 3.2.......but you know what? Im not giving up....I want this so bad I cry thinking about it! and I will walk those hospital halls as a proud nurse! You will not give up! I will not give up! We will not give up! We all must think positive and know we will make it.

Sorry.....I got a little emotional! ANYWAYS....does anyone attend GPTC formerly Dekalb Tech?
