I had a counselor appointment today with a new one (because the one I was going to before was not helpful and discuraged me a lot) So I told this new counselor I want to get into nursing, she looked at my grades and basically said that I might not make it and to look at other options She said I need A's and in order to be considered competative, I need to be a B+ average student. I'm about to do CNA and she said that that wont help because its mostly GPA that they looked at.
I want this with all my heart and if I don't make it, I rather do nothing
I need advise I recently was rejected into the LPN program of my choice due to past course performance in important classes I have retaken those classes with all As and currently holding a 4.0 GPA at the school of my choice. I did well on the TEAS test and all generals are finished! But my culmative GPA is only 3.0 and the college requires at a minimum a 2.8. I was wondering if it would be wise to consider other schools or write a letter of reconsideration to argue my case a whole year turn around of straight A's and 6 years experience as a CNA, 3.0 GPA, and the willingness to succeed in the nursing program and do whatever it takes, and good TEAS test scores. I feel like my past is the only thing that is holding me back I had my oldest child while in high school and I started my college career off the wrong way not realizing that even after you correct your mistakes it can still come back to haunt me! I swear if someone let me in I would prove them wrong and get all As and graduate with honors and like Nicki Minaj says I would s*** on em! Ladies or gentlemen in my boat with a not so great past in my boat who turned not so great grades into As and reapplied again and got in let me know what you did to get there, I am in desparate need for all advice it doesn't hurt to try every possible option!
Id ask for reconsideration and also look into other schools. Its just so time consuming and frustrating to go to another school. I have transferred to another school but they wanted me to retake everything! Even though I had A's and B's. They wanted me to waste another year even though I have done my time. I know I will make an awesome nurse...they just have to take that chance. I worked hard for my 3.2 and I know for sure I didnt cheat my way there like most 4.0's at my school do. Keep working towards your dreams. Im going to keep showing myself at every Nursing selection until I make it. I am never giving up. I passed the Teas test last year and did not make the cut for Lpn. I am retesting next Monday and dang it I hope I get selected this time.. I wish they would give me a chance.......I would keep at it....the more you show you want it...eventually they will see you're serious. What school do you go to?
My situation was a bit different. All throughout high school, my counselor basically told me I wouldn't make it in nursing school or even college for that matter. She doubted that I'd even get accepted. I felt horrible about myself for so long. I called myself stupid, thinking it was the truth. Now, I have a 3.9 GPA in a pre-nursing program. Looking back, I am both angry and thankful. It was wrong of her to doubt me. A counselor should be encouraging. They should help shape and mold your future. Not crush your dreams. On the other hand, if she hadn't been so discouraging, I might not have worked so hard to prove her and myself wrong. I agree with people above. You should find a new counselor. You can do this. If you really want it, you'll find a way to achieve it. Good luck!
it sucks when someone basically tells you youre dreams are @#!*. You have to take it with a grain of salt. if you have to repeat a class, reprat it. if you have to stay up all night studying, so be it. don EVER allow someone to make you feel like you are nothing. it is up to you if you want to be a nurse. i would research LPN programs around you and work your way up to an RN. Prove that advisor wrong and shove your LPN license in her face.

sorry the bolded part just rubs me the wrong way. I think everyone works hard to attain the grades they get. Are there cheaters out there - probably .. but the assumptions in this statement are just wrong.
To the OP .. keep at it. You are your own best advocate. Your advisor gave you his/her opinion and as a prior poster noted - not all who has aspirations of nursing will make it into a program. A good advisor should encourage but be truthful even when that is not what we want to hear. "Hear" the advise and make plans to prove him/her wrong - only you can do the work. Study more - study harder .. no one said it was going to be easy but it will be worthwhile. Good luck!

you are kinda assuming that she doesn't know for a fact that students cheat at her school.
she may have no idea what she's talking about, but we don't know that.
i'm sure you have plenty of integrity, but many people don't (and i've learned that the hard way).
an a is an a no matter how you obtain it. there are many people who are willing to anything for an a (i have seen that first hand *yuck*). cheating was rampant at the cc i attended.
when i took my pre reqs, about 90% of the class cheated on the tests. the professors would leave (i never understood why they did that), and everyone would open their books and look at notes. they would always offer to give me answers but i never cheated. i refused to compromise my integrity. they all got a's, and i got a c that semester. i felt like a complete fool. so much for integrity....
when i applied to nursing school at the university, the same people who cheated their way through were applying at the same time. i hated the fact that a whole bunch of cheaters/liars would most likely get chosen over me.
i decided to let it go. i prayed and left it in god's hands....
you know what happened? i was accepted, and many of the cheaters/liars were denied bc they failed the surprise drug test!!!
god works in mysterious ways. don't give up!
p.s,
stop using non-prescribed or illegal drugs when applying to nursing school! duh! lol
First off. I am saying this with the kindest tone and respect. .....I dont know why it rubbed you the wrong way because its a fact and i wasn't talking about anyone there unless the shoe fits. It was in bold to emphasize how hard I personally have worked and that .I am proud of my honest accomplishments in school. So...the assumptions in this statement are right. How?? because I know how hard I have worked and I have witnessed cheaters in the pre nursing program!!! So please dont accuse me of a wrongful statement when indeed itstrue. I do know what I am talking about because I have seen students cheat in online math class in the computer lab answering tests with each other and online algebra programs that give them the answers. Ive seen many many students take the same class together online and repeat this for each course. I have had many classes with them. I made a truthful comment. and I am well to aware its not ever going to be easy. Who said it was? So really...I am not sure why you made that comment back to me, I wasnt trying to ruin your day. I am here to interact with people...not to start arguments on this site or for anyone to be "rubbed the wrong way" .
Darkstar - sure cheating can be more rampant at some schools. Overall I find that sad. To me cheating is an unacceptable behavior and schools that allow for it to happen lacks integrity.
Mindy - I do not doubt your integrity or hard work...and you did not ruin my day in any way.
Objectively I was looking at the statement "cheat like most 4.0's at my school do" - is lots of cheating going on at your school - maybe - I do not know that. But a broad statement that most 4.0 students are cheating to get there ... I just do not happen to agree with that statement.
If you as a student "know" that cheating is going on, you have a responsible to report it under the vast majority of student conduct codes. No drama from here - just an observation after all this is a forum where we can discuss things being brought to the table right ;-)
Its not my sponsibility to report them because they're adults and should know right from wrong. I have actually considered saying something but id spend so much time on something that I could be putting into my own studying and I choose to do that. It is my responsibility to be honest like we aresupposed to be. But in the end I will be the one who can sit back and rest assured I did everything honest and right! And yes to answer your question...you would be so amazed at the cheating going on.
