On our last day of clinical, we were allowed to go around and get people to sign our uniforms. Even some of the docs good-naturedly participated. Patients, nursing staff, doctors, fellow students...all kinds of signatures. I had intended on keeping that uniform as a memento, but it was discarded a long time ago.

oh haha this is great.

I hate studying every day and still feel like I don't know a thing. working on care plans, getting up early for clinicals, having nurses that are not friendly at all and so rude to you, not being able to hang out with your friends are just a few things on the list. haha

I hate waking up at 4:30 for clinicals with the worst instructor possible. I hate being constatnly berated for personality and looks rather than on my nursing care. I hate all the drama and pettyness of nursing school... it without a doubt is WORSE than high school. I hate studying all the time for tests which are based on the instructors opinion, not what the books say. I hate stupid assignments. I hate having no money.

Nursing school sucks

No one has told you that's what Nurses do. There will be pettiness, you will be judge by your looks, and you will have to study like hell just to keep up with the new information that comes out almost everyday.

In most states you will have a certain number of CEU's (Continuing Education Units) to get and keep your license. Kid, you are still in school. Your journey down the path of nursing is jut beginning. Welcome, Fun Seeker

I have to say that the one thing that I hate the absolute most is the BS beat around the bush answers you receive from your instructors when you ask a question they do not know the answer to. For example, today in class our instructor was talking about lab test to explore the cause of Delirium....she said "and you will want to test for drug and alcohol levels because...(awkward 1 minute pause of talking)...there may be something there worth finding..."....REALY!!!!

I have 3 kids so I am usually up around 5 am anyways (3 1/2, 18 months, and 2 months...I know...), but the care plans and clinical trials are no fun. And not to mention the DRUG CARDS!!!!!! If I have to write one more furosemide, acetaminophen, or Metoprolol drug card I may flip out...

(Now, back to the mind boggling studies of a half crazed nursing student)

I hate that our tests this semester are not written by the people doing the lectures...

i agree with you on the waking up at 5am thing. I HATE IT. i cant wait til i graduate and get myself a nice night shift or evening shift job and never have to wake up that early again. hmf.

also i hate my uniform and i cant wait to burn it.

Same here! I am no where near a morning person. As soon as I graduate, I will be more than happy to accept an evening or night shift! Don't get me wrong, I kind of get a rush from being on the floor and it feels like I'm a part of something so much bigger than being "just a nursing student". However, I hit that snooze button at least 3x before actually getting out of bed :lol2:.

And not to mention the DRUG CARDS!!!!!! If I have to write one more furosemide, acetaminophen, or Metoprolol drug card I may flip out...

LOVE IT…I AGREE!! :lol2:

Yall got me sorta excited. I start in Fall.

I hate waking up at 5 am. I hate having to drive to the next town for clinicals where they charge for parking that i can't afford so a church has been nice enough to grant me permission to let me park there for free but I have to walk half a mile one way. I hate being so broke. I hate ATI and all the mistakes I keep finding in their tests.

On a side note, our instructor asked us the other day about what we would do if we had someone with a suspected spinal injury and didn't have a cervical collar on hand. One of my classmates said "I'd rip my ati book in half and use it to stabilize their neck!" LOL The instructor didn't miss a beat- he replied with "I know you'd all rather use Iggy but it has resale value".

I know we have to pay to park for clinical or take a shuttle that we have to wait 15-30 minutes for! And I would rather burn my ati book!!!!! And yes their are a ton of mistakes in the tests!

I'm a morning person so I don't mind getting up early. So far we have only had one nurse who wasn't student friendly. All the others have been great. Our instructor is amazing. She is all for us jumping in there and learning new things and grabbing any opportunity we can to learn. We park for free at our facility so that's nice. Our uniforms are our responsibility, white tops with navy pants, any brand as long as they are not ornately decorated. We just have to have our school patch on it. I do hate the drug cards and care plans. The studying is intense and time consuming but our first week our instructors put us to work making an academic calendar with a study schedule. It really helps to keep you organized and prioritized. I make time for my family , even if it means I have to stay up late. Eating together and having a few hours to play together or just watch tv is critical for my peace of mind. I remind myself whenever I feel stressed over the workload and its consequences that I chose to do this. If its too much I can always walk away.I know its stressful as a nursing student but it doesnt last long and I'm trying to enjoy the experience and make the most of the rough spots. I could spend hours yapping about the "bad stuff" but in reality for our group , the good is outweighing the bad. That may change next semester, who knows, but for now we have been blessed with an amazing instructor (several actually lol) so overall I'm happy. I'll check back in next semester to let ya know if my thought process does a complete turn around lol

Gosh I feel you all too! Our clinicals start at 645-1 this quarter, and I HATE getting up even earlier. I hate the white uniforms(so ready for actual scrubs). I also hate when we have clinicals and paperwork due on the same week as a test.

On the other hand, I LOVE clinicals and patient care and meeting new people and when I work with fantastic nurses!
