does IL recognize deaconess grads?

Published

Hi everyone! I am an LPN in IL, i know that my state does not recognize excelsior degrees......but do they consider deaconess? the program sounds awesome. thanks for any info you can provide!

Take some Pepto Bismol and look at other schools and realize that they are right in line with them. You can't compare DCN with Excelsior. As Opal said, Excelsior is self-study and DCN is not. It's time to get off of your high horse now. Geez! How annoying!

I agree! When you have not experienced Deaconess--you really cannot make an accurate judgment In my years of education--you will find that many schools with PhD's are also very expensive. If you think that 400.00 per credit hour is expensive--then stick with your LPN. You will see when you apply to PhD programs--that it is not easy and is also very expensive.

Most people that have gone to Deaconess have their own experiences to speak from. From the looks of it--you have not been to clinicals at either Deaconess or Excelsior--when you have done that...we will know that you have a foundation to work from.

NICURNtobe and many others have already been at Deaconess for awhile--you cannot make an accurate judgment...until you know what they have experienced--please refrain from making negative comments until you know more. We are grown and can make our own decisions about our school finances...period.

Gee whiz, I'm sooooo sorry!

It's $435 per credit hour for an associates, not a doctorate.

Little bit of difference in the level of education a person is getting there, Toots.

Heatherbless and the rest,

Obviously she/he enjoys being on that high horse and still has to try to prove something. I say we refrain from responding. It's getting really old!

Back to the Original Poster's Question...

Yes, IL does recognize Deaconess grads. I am a Deaconess grad and just passed my boards. Have been working in IL for 3 months as a nurse - license pending.

Yes, Deaconess is very expensive, fortunately my husband and I were able to pay for it. The Deaconess program is the only one that would fit with my work schedule and other committments and therefore, was well worth the price to me. A traditional program simply was not an option for me. (Besides, if I had gone to a traditional program I would still be onl the waiting list!)

I don't think he is trying to be totally obnoxious. I can see his point.

Thanks everybody, i am so glad i found this website!

(a special thanks to you, mrs Yost, you answered my question from personal experience.) p.s. guys, we nurses need to stick together, i know that we all have our differences, but it makes me feel bad when i see posts that are rude,or snippy, we of all people shouldn't be that way.

Congrats on passing the boards

I am brand new to this site and have just become aware of Deaconess although I have been looking for some time with no success for just such a program. Congratulations on on your success Mrs. Yost! Can you tell me what the admissions process was like for you at Deaconess. Is there a waiting list? Is it a very lengthly process? I would like to get started as soon as possible and seeing as how it is already December 27, 2004 chances are I won't be able to get into the upcoming semester. :crying2: I sure wish I learned about Deaconess sooner! Thanks in advance for any info. :)

Hi Michelle,

I'll be graduating from Deaconess in July and I can tell you that it has become quite popular since I started in Sept '03. A friend of mine tried to get in for Jan. and was denied. There were over 400 applicants for 20 spots!

Wow, 400 applicants. I can't say I am surprised though. I was thinking about how cool it is to be in on a program that is basically one of a kind. Kind of neat when you think about it!

I had looked at this program previously but the hospital here won't participate in the program. :(
