I seem to remember a post about this before. I am not sure if Deaconess is recognized in NY or not. I really don't know why they wouldn't recognize DCN.

You can read your state BON's website and see that the statement you made is not entirely true. IL will accept Excelsior graduates from other states who have 2+ yrs. of expericence.

Excelsior is accepted in every state in the country except California.

I don't know why DCN sounds so awesome. I wasn't impressed when I was shopping around for a distance learning program. For one thing, the program is longer than EC, and for another the cost is absolutely outrageous. I don't understand why people will balk at $1500 for the CPNE (maybe $3000 if you fail once and have to retake it) but then think they are getting a good deal paying over $400 a semester hour to go through Deaconess? :uhoh3:

Since I do not have any clinical experience I was told by EC that their program wasn't an option for me. So this pretty much just left Deaconess as the best alternate choice. Also another plus for me is that since I live in St. Louis the clinical evaluations would be very easy for me to get to. I am not sure why others have choosen DCN over EC, it would be interesting to hear what others have to say.:)

Here we go again! :uhoh3:

Yup, you said it...

Ok. Deaconess is an NLN-accredited program that has clinical experience concurrent with theory. It is, therefore, acceptable for initial licensure by the California BRN.

Kelly,

Did Deaconess or the NY and CA Boards confirm this? I had not heard this before...Anyone with specifics please advise...

Thanks!

deej,

This is my understanding as well...I plan to do some travel nursing later on and don't want to be limited from going anywhere.

Thanks

Please try to refrain from posting information that is not helpful. The two programs Excelsior and Deaconess are NOT the same programs which is why they are different in length and admission requirements. Furthermore one is self taught the other is school taught.

We get it, you don't care for Deaconess.

So like, wow man...dig...I have been accepted into a *real* program that is supposed to be really far out and solid and right on (Baptist School of Nursing in Arkansas starts january 3) but I thought I would do the Excelsior thing because it would be more convenient than going to class...I don't even have any desire to visit California much less work there but like, I want to know what you think, would you choose the real program over Excelsior? Which way would you go?

Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone didn't know. :coollook:
