If not a nurse...what????

Nurses General Nursing

So, if you considered nursing but had another dream career what would you have done????

I wanted to be a vet so badly but got a grant from my State for Nursing School! I took it..duh why not...been in healthcare since I was young! But I still long for a career in vet! (I have better results with pets and their owners than people some days! LOL!)

What was your dream job? And lets keep it to non nursing okay??? We all know about loving nursing...but what about other professions too???

As a child I wanted to be a doctor but when I hit the teens it just vanished from my mind. Don't have any regrets either...lol!

As a grown up I think I would have wanted to have a starbucks/bakery. I love to bake specially cakes. I like to decorate them as well. I am not a big fan of coffee but I do love the aroma and the atmosphere of a starbucks. Too bad they don't franchise :rotfl: I will look into it as my golden years approach.

I want to have an antiques shop or be a professional garage sale/ estate sale organizer/saler or be a professional worldwide traveler. I am getting tired of hospital work, it gets depressing.

Physical Anthropologist specializing in ancient diseases and disease processes seen in different kinds of mummies and assorted human skeletons! If I ever win the lottery, I'll go straight to the anth department and sign up. :coollook:

hmmm. I knew at the age of 5 that I was going to be a nurse.

Now, I am preparing to take a judging course to be a tumbling judge for fun. My daughter is a competitive tumbler/trampolinist & it is truly amazing what some of these kids can do.

Other than that, when I win the lottery, lol, I would join the other animal lovers & own a doggie hotel, along with a Boxer Rescue.

I would raise long-haired dachshunds on the beautiful white sands of my own private beach on my own private island. And photograph them. Come to think of it, Richard Branson's place would do just fine, if I could get him to move. Anyone wanna loan me a few million?? :D

Ok guys, don't laugh but secretly I wanted to be a fighter jet pilot. The faster it goes the better! When I graduated from hs I was sooo close to joining the navy. I had all my paperwork ready but I couldn't pass the physical--ended up finding mitral valve prolapse and atrial tachycardia so I ditched that plan.

Whatever job I do has to be high stress. I'm an adrenaline junkie!

I'd love to be a professional singer or a musician in a world-class symphony. My two loves are music and science. But more realistically I'd probably end up a music teacher...that doesn't interest me. So I didn't major in music and to this day I somewhat regret it.

I was originally going to major in flute performance. It is my first love, my main passion! Playing in a symphony would be my ultimate dream job. And I too still regret not majoring in music, and I'm not even done with my RN schooling yet! I have seriously considered doing per diem nursing and persuing music still. Thoughts?

As a child I had ambitions to grow up into a tall, gorgeous, blond haired stunner, and become a movie star.

I was born, black haired, short and average looking! :lol2:  :chuckle And stayed that way!! :lol2:

So... I became a nurse!!! :lol2: :chuckle :clown: :roll

I used to be a private detective before I had my son. There were times when it was everything you could imagine, car chases, spying, phone gags, photographing cheating spouses, research etc. The money was great since I was a female and could literally get beyond the "velvet rope" which made me much sought after when it came to process serving of famous people.

I was even written about in a biography of a talk show host where I did the impossible, as well as a regional magazine that carried a story about Los Angeles PI's.

Nursing has been very rewarding on many levels and has opened the door to Forensics, which I am currently completing. I am hoping to work with the Medical examiners office in a capacity that will allow me to use my scientific skills with my investigation to determine cause of death and criminal circumstance.

Dream job? Maybe, although I carry the physical scars from my PI days with a stab wound scar on my scapula along with having to alter my physical appearance in light of retaliation from those I caught in the act!

Wow, you sound like an awesome lady. Good luck w/Forensic Nursing, which should be much safer than your previous PI work. ;)

Are you an RN? Considered ICU, ER, or Flight Nursing?

Specializes in Telemetry, OR, ICU.

My first career [1980-1992] was as an aircraft electrician, in USMC & civilian.

The Health Care field is my second career [since 1995; '95-'98 CST, '98-'04 RN w/ADN, and BSN Aug '04]. My dream job would be either as a PA or MD, both in surgery. However, at 44 yrs old I settle for CRNA if accepted in the Army Graduate Program in Anesthesia Nursing. Hoping to get the "good" news at the end of this month. crossfingers.gif

Teach for the London School of Economics and in my off-time, create glass sculpture. Thanks for asking, really. I'm reminded of what's possible.
