If not a nurse...what????

Nurses General Nursing

So, if you considered nursing but had another dream career what would you have done????

I wanted to be a vet so badly but got a grant from my State for Nursing School! I took it..duh why not...been in healthcare since I was young! But I still long for a career in vet! (I have better results with pets and their owners than people some days! LOL!)

What was your dream job? And lets keep it to non nursing okay??? We all know about loving nursing...but what about other professions too???

I'm in school for my LPN, but I'm still torn between that and teaching. I love to be with the children at my kids school. There's nothing better than walking into a classroom and a bunch of Kindergartners, First graders or Second Grader jump up yelling "Courtney's mom!" or "Kailey's mom!" and throwing their arms around my waist to hug me. I would love to teach Kindergarten-2nd grade.

I have a love for animals & want to protect their environment & ecosystems. Earned my AAS in Animal Management, poor salary $7-10/h to start. Finished my nursing degree & decided I need to do what I really love. This january back to school to earn a BS in Conservation & Wildlife Mgmt & begin to work towards a cause I am passionate about!!!

$ isn't workth it, I'd rather be poor & happy... Yeah me:)

I laugh when I think about how long I wanted to be a doc - whew, glad I snapped out of that craziness - I'm not slagging docs or anything, it's just that nursing has been a better career choice for me.............

a few years ago, I thought I needed a change so I got a gig as a pharmaceutical rep - yikes - not a good thing for me - it sure made me appreciate what I have in nursing..............

I sing in a good old rock 'n' roll band once a week and I love it, however, it's just for fun - my day job pays way more than playing in bars does up here in my neck of the woods - my kids go to parochial school ($$$$) and play hockey (also $$$$) so singing will remain a hobby for now.....

I do have a knack for foreign languages - I can "find a man, find the can, get fed and get a bed" in at least 4 languages so I've always thought that doing something in that required me to speak another language other than English at my job would be cool.....

maybe in my next life........for now, I'm a :nurse:

I played electric bass in a USAF band for almost 3 decades. :balloons:

Very cool to have been a musician playing the music I wanted to play (esp. big band and oldies) without spending all my off time trying to scare up gigs or worrying about health coverage for the kids or teaching inattentive youngsters. And now I'm a nursing student, which, looking back, was the right order to put things in, since the military has an age limit, but nursing doesn't (and the VN-era GI Bill sure helps in getting through school).

ooohhhh - sounds way cool to me!!! hope nursing will be as fun for you!

 hi triage,

when i read your post i was thinking wow that sounds like me! i wanted to be a vet also. i love animals and like u i get along better with pets. lol. i was to old to go to vetrenay school. it takes 8 years. and i would have to relocate. so i went into nursing. still think about being a vet sometimes. :smackingf

I wanted to go to Vet school also. I found that for some reason, I can not do advanced math. My poor brain can just not process numbers very well. This kept me from going beyond Algebra classes.

If I ever won the lottery, I would open a pet kennel/resort. My house is already like one, because I'm constantly taking care of not only my own pets, but my friend's pets also.

I would love to be a marine biologist or a wildlife biologist...one of those people like Steve Erwin or Jeff Corwin, etc who travels the world looking for and studying fascinating creatures....I am not afraid of any animal of any type.

But since I have a family and did not have the $$ and oppty to pursue a degree until my late 30's - that is not possible.

Dont get me wrong...I love being a nurse...but it sure would be nice to be out somewhere tromping through a rainforest right now.

That's interesting; we have a marine biologist in our RN school changing careers. Life is funny. Dunno, I kinda think anyone can achieve their dreams if they figure it out and pay the price. I knew a trumpeter whose wife left him for someone else in the band. Lots of other guys would've fallen apart. He quietly worked and saved every nickel he made until he could retire at 20 as a MSgt, then paid cash for 5,000 acres of rain forest in Paraguay, an abandoned plantation with a mansion on it, fixed it up, married one of the locals, and did something unheard of: instead of taking the customary crippling cut, he welcomed the locals to farm his property free of charge. He wakes up every morning and opens his door and food is piled up on his steps, thanks offerings from the farmers. Needless to say, nobody had better ever mess with him on his property. And he left no forwarding address, though I'd love to send him a congratulatory card. I think we can all do something like that. Even though my dreams are modest and far more conventional, I feel like I'm on my way, and being on my way, I feel like I'm living it right now. And I think everyone can feel that way and needs to because, I mean, I could get flattened by a city bus tomorrow but I'd have no regrets.

I thought of becoming a model, actress and even an air stewardess - infact I've even went for the interview but didn't make it :roll

When I was much younger I often dreamed of having a shop that sell girlish and cute stuff such as teddy bears, Hello Kitty. I've always wanted to buy those nice little Hello Kitty stuff when I was a little girl but my family couldn't afford as they are very expensive.

Now that I'm a grown up and a mother, sometimes I daydreamed that I'm a " tai tai " - one that doesn't need to work, marry a very, very rich man. People serving me and never worry about money. Everyday is a luxury to me. It's good way to destress myself. :lol2:

I love "tai tai" - I think I'm going to have to start using that in every day conversation!!! :lol2: :lol2:

I get a kick out of listening to my wife & mother-in-law talk to each other.

Here is a Pic of my wife, also an RN, an I.
