So, if you considered nursing but had another dream career what would you have done????
I wanted to be a vet so badly but got a grant from my State for Nursing School! I took it..duh why not...been in healthcare since I was young! But I still long for a career in vet! (I have better results with pets and their owners than people some days! LOL!)
What was your dream job? And lets keep it to non nursing okay??? We all know about loving nursing...but what about other professions too???
Hmmm, first real female Navy Seal, rock star, dancer, journalist, race car driver - actually a writer. Above all else, just want to do SOMETHING besides wonder what I wanted to be when I grew up. Thank god I finally found nursing. I suppose a flight nurse is close enough to Navy Seal...:rotfl:
When I was a little girl, I always wanted to be a teacher. Then I got to college and decided dealing with kids was not for me. So I changed to nursing. My mom's dream job for me was a doctor or pharmacist. Right now I have two jobs, one I love and one that's OK most of the time (and really sucks sometimes!). But my dream job is to own a restaurant and rental properties and work part-time as a nursing instructor (teaching classes, not clinicals).
Maybe someday.
(Rolling up sleeves and preparing to delve into unlimited-cash-flow fantasy...)
OK, aside from ER nursing and my darlin husband, I am passionate about horses. Riding them, caring for them, training them, taking pictures of them, educating others about them, rescuing them, you name it.
I would love to operate a horse rescue operation. I'd possess the legal know-how to annually seize all the unwanted babies of the Premarin mares, a pilot's license to wing them to safety, and a vet's training to take care of them. My breathtaking photographs of them would have thousands fighting to adopt these babies. I'd need some political pull for laws requiring one to pass stringent tests (oral, written, and polygraphic) prior to breeding horses, and I'd exercise my interest in writing by letting the world know why reckless and rampant breeding is such a bad idea.
Strict rules would apply to all breeding endeavors; for instance, should your carefully planned Thoroughbred offspring NOT turn out to be the next Secretariat, you will still a) provide this horse with a safe and happy home for the rest of his natural life or b) locate a safe and happy home for him, approved by me. Furtive attempts to cash in on your loss by selling to meat buyers would result in your choice of unanesthetized emasculation of you or nearest male relative, or one year of relentless exposure to GI bleeds, C-diff, and combative patients with unfilled antipsychotic meds.
Since over 90,000 horses a year in the US alone are sent to slaughterhouses, I'd close them all immediately. Severe and creative punishment would be applied to any person who made a living killing horses. Ditto for any person caught subjecting horses to abuse, starvation, or neglect.
Open spaces where wild horses roam would be preserved, and instead of regularly hauling the old and "unbreakable" mustangs off to slaughter, I'd invite other vets to help me castrate a few wild stallions so the popluation would not exceed the environmental resources.
My spare time would be spent as it is now... in a saddle or otherwise engaged in quality time with my 2 awesome Arabian geldings.

I always hated math in school, but in college I really enjoyed it. I think I would enjoy teaching pre-algebra and algebra I to middle school students.
