If an MD shoved you...

Okay, if, theoretically, of course, an MD shoved you, in front of a patient and the patient's family, what would you do?

Not just the fantasy answers (although, as nurses, we can be quite creative in coming up with revenge tactics ). Please evaluate what you would do as well as the possible consequences of your own actions.

If, however, you have a particularly irrisistible revenge fantasy, lay it on me!!!

We have a doc who does that. We draw straws as to who has to take his patients. He's not physically violent, and MOST OF THE TIME he's not verbally abusive to the nurses, but he totally FREAKS OUT when it comes time to do the delivery!! Cussing, swearing, saying things like, 'c'mon, c'mon!! Give me the g.d. bulb/clamp/scissors!!!' and snapping his fingers, etc.. We call him 'Danger Granger.' HA! We all talk about what a spaz he is...how annoying!!

Onr thing we did in a situation akin to the temper tantrum: We, all of us, stood encircled around the nurse who was getting the brunt of the tantrum and crossed our arms in front of our chests and stared at the jerk. He sputtered something and stalked off. Our head nurse must've said something somewhere to someone, but that was the LAST time that ___ happened.

Perhaps the next nurse he does this to should "loose her footing", hit the floor and then come up with a performance that even Julia Roberts would envy. I'd hobble all the way to my attorney's office then take a nice vacation on this weasle!!!!

I would file a formal written complaint to my supervisor and then I would contact an attorney. This behavior must not be tolerated and the victims should seek punititve damages. This is criminal battery and has no place in the work place

I haven't seen or heard of any physicians at my hospital shoving anyone but we do have a couple of docs who throw temper tantrums. I love this way of handling it, Maikranz.

This made me think about the time, a MD threw a tamtrum on me, and I stood toe to toe with him, and let him know I wasn't taking any of it, because there was nothing, that I had did to cause his actions. While we were going at it, NONE of my coworkers, including the charge nurse came anywhere near us! It wasn't UNTIL HE APOLOZIED, did the Charge nurse come over. By then he was calm, and in talking to me with respect, after realizing he had no basis for his actions! I found it funny, how everyone suddenly found something to do, until the storm cleared! Kudos, to your team members who were there to support you!

There was a doc (naturally a cardiologist....god incarnate) at one hospital i worked at that was famous for throwing fits and threating nurses. One day i was sitting at the nurses staion when he came in and started to yell at one nurse about his pt. She tried to tell him that it was not her patient and she knew nothing about what was going on. he would have nothing of it, he kept calling her stupid and threating to have her job, I finally said in a loud voice that they wee distirbing me and that the lady said she knew nothing about the pt. He looked at me sitting there...and asked me if I wanted to take this outside and settle it like a real man....I said fine and stood up...I am 6 foot tall and weigh 230 lbs and bench press 350 lbs...he took one look at me and walked away muttering...never did hear him yell at anyone around me again

while I've never personally shoved a nurse...I have been beligerent to them before...I'm very particulary about my OR...I've told many to leave...they're expendable...just bring in another one who is somewhat bright and coherent and the surgery will go fine...the one thing I learned during my neurology clerkship in London during my trainng at PENN by the attending neurosurgeon there..."Surgery is a miracle and surgeons are gods that walk the face of the earth." I don't have a god complex...however, when somebody is praying when I go into surgery...who do you think they're really praying to??

Sorry all about going off half-cocked... I'm sure you're right that he/she(?) is not for real but unfortunately I know too many with that attitude. It does ruin it for those who are truly dedicated to their work......
