If you could no longer work as a nurse, for whatever reason, what other job or career would you choose? This is assuming that you have only ever worked as a nurse and your degree is strickly nurse related.

Yup, in high school I was pretty serious about my trumpet playing---I was in a high school summer program at Berklee College of Music for my last two years of high school. I was tossed up between applying to go to Berklee or going to nursing school. I would have been in the running for a full scholarship to Berklee if I had applied. I chose nursing school, and sadly I haven't kept up with my trumpet playing, but I'd like to start practicing again!

It seems as though nurses are a multi-talented bunch!! I love music but have no talent for it, something that I've always longed for though. The great thing about this is, just think of the innate stress relief :D ! ANNDDD, you get to hone that skill as well!

I would :redpinkhe to open my own bakery.

Awesome, bringing happiness :D, and joy :heartbeat, to the masses, and er, oh yes, I forgot, :crying2: and extra mass, er a, roll or 2 to my tummy! heh, heh, heh! Got a sweet tooth here!

Me to!

I worked for 2 major bookstores and I LOVED it and I worked for our public library system for a few years and thought about becoming a librarian. Those are both jobs that I have fond memories of and always had a great time at work.

I started college as an English major. Sometimes I really wish I would have continued with that, since I don't like nursing much at all. I think I would have enjoyed teaching literature classes.

I love books, and have always wanted to write (but probably don't have much talent in it honestly....lol).

Thanks for the reply! My favorite teacher and memories are from my High School English teacher...Miss Ryder. She was sooo interesting and brought all the literature to life in a huge way!!!! I still remember what she taught and how much she lit my mind on fire with the possibilities!

You never know (about writing) until you try!!! :typing Good luck to you!

I'd be a cat breeder and groomer. What's better than having a box of kittens year round?

If it didn't work out this time in college for nursing (which it will, graduating in Dec), I would of went to become a veterinarian. I love animals and I would still be caring for someone, even though it's an animal. Or I would of loved to become a high school chemistry or biology teacher. I had loved it and my teachers made me love it more.

LOL..I know right. My brother got his upper 'body' tatooed at $1500/day!!!!!!! The tatoo artist worked 10 hour shifts and my brother bought his dinner! Imagine, $1500 for 10 hours sitting and being creative and getting fed vs $____ for NO time to sit, 12 hour shift, NO meal break....lol, what were we thnking!:p

Very true, I'm having my full back done and it was going to cost me $4000.00 so my son who does custom work on autos, (air rides, suicide doors, etc) worked out a deal and did a paint job on the artist's truck in return for my work. So far about 5 sessions at 3 1/2 hours each. Then he did the guys wife's truck to get his full sleeve done. I love Bartering lol. Figure what they make on body piercing! $40.00 for something takes 5 min if that. My guy has more work then he can handle for the moment especially since his wife made the cover of 2 of the top tattoo magazines last month. Almost all the body peircers I know are RN's that got fed up with the politics.

I'd love to be a marine biologist, would love to live by the ocean, and swim with the dolphins all day

I would return as a medic for the USAF, but since my back won't let me pass the physical :( I can't do this. So I guess I would work as a travel agent. I worked for a travel agency one time for about a year and loved it, except the pay sucked :(, but it was a great job and fun too!

I would be a chef, without question. My whole family loves to cook and on my days off I love to explore new recipes and test them on my fiance (he doesn't mind!). My sister just completed culinary school and works as an actual chef in a restaurant. The rest of my immediate family is just very talented and creative in the kitchen. For me, cooking is relaxing because I just turn up my IPod, dance around the kitchen and cook up some delicious food!!

my husband and I are wanting to open a halfway house for female addicts and their children.

but if i were no longer able to practice as an RN, i would go back to bookkeeping. i used to LOVE working with numbers.

i will open a restaurant and hire chefs who are ex-nurses. nobody would choke to death in my restaurant. = )
