If you could no longer work as a nurse, for whatever reason, what other job or career would you choose? This is assuming that you have only ever worked as a nurse and your degree is strickly nurse related.

I would :redpinkhe to open my own bakery.

Specializes in Adolescent Psych, PICU.
I'd love to work in a bookstore again. That was my favorite job, that and my library job. Heh, I totally should have been a librarian. :D SHHHHH!!

Me to!

I worked for 2 major bookstores and I LOVED it and I worked for our public library system for a few years and thought about becoming a librarian. Those are both jobs that I have fond memories of and always had a great time at work.

I started college as an English major. Sometimes I really wish I would have continued with that, since I don't like nursing much at all. I think I would have enjoyed teaching literature classes.

I love books, and have always wanted to write (but probably don't have much talent in it honestly....lol).

Specializes in Critical Care (ICU/CVICU).
i would become a chef! i love to cook and the idea of it makes me so happy.

me too! i planned on going to cooking school part time after graduation. food makes me happy!

I would looove to have Samantha Brown's job (from the travel channel)

I was pre vet until financial issues reared their ugly head so that would be my first choice.

Second choice-police officer. I would make a heckuva great detective.

Third choice interior designer. I am always making over any spaces I spend time in, love walking through an empty house or space and imagining how I could transform it.

Wow, what a wide variety of choices!! Good for you!:yeah:

I would be a hairstylist or go back to playing my clarinet and joined sometype of band.

Nurses really are a creative bunch aren't we!:wink2:

Teach/Lecture

Ahhh, the first 'teacher'!:heartbeat I would love to do that as well. I love it when you see someone go to the next level and accomplish new and interesting things! If I had the credentials, I think I would do that too.:yeah:

work in some sort of computer based job-programming, that sort of thing. If this is your fantasy job of choice, I would work at Disneyworld

And get to smile alllll day!!!!:chuckle

I'd go back to my previous job, activity director in a Mentally Ill nursing home.

What did you do there?

Same here Tattoo artist and body piercer lol. By the way my tattoo artist makes more than I do as a nurse and he gets to sit down for his work lol!! Imagine jabbing people all day that actually enjoy it :yeah:

LOL..I know right. My brother got his upper 'body' tatooed at $1500/day!!!!!!! The tatoo artist worked 10 hour shifts and my brother bought his dinner! Imagine, $1500 for 10 hours sitting and being creative and getting fed vs $____ for NO time to sit, 12 hour shift, NO meal break....lol, what were we thnking!:p

I havn't been able to work as a nurse shortly after graduating. I became disabled. I did receive my license, and even kept it current for 8 years simply because I love the profession. Although I was able to do a couple simple private and temporary things in order to assist an RN friend of mine.

This is one reason why I post here on AN. I love to keep in contact with nurses, and have many nurse friends. I also read journals, and other educational things. This not only keeps my mind active, but I also love to learn new things.

Sorry to hear that but am glad that you stick around! Have you ever done any consulting or help out at LTC facilities when they are in a crunch? We used to call in our retired nurses to help out with the paper work and such (and this involved patient contact like talking to them which they loved!).

I'd wanna be a "SUPER HERO":dancgrp:

:chuckle:chuckle:chuckle LOL! Too funny, but I thought you already were! ;)
