If you could just pick up and leave, where would you go?

I already started one topic today and wanted to add my question there, but I thought that this one is quite different and deserves its own discussion. So if you had a chance to just pick up and relocate wherever you wanted, which state/area would you choose and why? I personally would take into consideration how easy it would be to find a job, economical climate of the state, taxes, real estate prices, quality of public schools in the area, weather and proximity to other states where we could go and visit during holidays/vacations. How about you? If you were given a choice, what would it be?

I'm originally from Northern Cali (Santa Cruz, Silicon Valley, San Francisco) and while beautiful and filled with scenery and culture... the cost of living and traffic is a total bummer. I relocated to Indiana to my boyfriend, who is also from Cali (same high school). Our house is gorgeous and on 5 acres, the rural land around here is amazingly pretty and Indianapolis, Kentucky, and Chicago is a short drive away. People are waaaaaaaay friendlier and hospitable here.

Btw, I've lived in Raleigh NC, Buffalo NY, Seattle, and Portland Oregon. In 10 yrs we will prob relocate to Florida, so that will also be an adventure. :)

Specializes in OR.

If I could relocate anywhere I wanted with no restrictions and nothing holding me back, I'd head out West toward Yellowstone Country. After vacationing there, we didn't want to come home. Montana/Wyoming is the home of my dreams.

Did I win the lottery? Buy a big 'ol RV and I'm GONE. Or, am I still working as a nurse? :( May as well stay here, the grass isn't any greener.

The further you are from family, the better you get along with them. (At least mine)

I I spend most of my time traveling for work. Any off time is spent in Florida.

I would go to Texas probably San Antonio. Love warm weather, the culture, the atmosphere and economy is good. Beautiful homes and apartments and no state tax :)

I live here in San Antonio, I don't think I would want to live anywhere else. I wish the weather wasn't so hot but I manage cause I love it here.

I already relocated from Miami to Orlando! I already like it a lot more, less traffic, less rent money, and I live 25 mins from Disney World . Other options would be Denver, CO or Boston

London! And everyday I could kiss the hallowed ground..... where the Beatles and the Rolling Stones once walked.... `

I am making that choice right now - single, no kids, and no boyfriend. And I have no idea. I am just moving back to where my parents/friends live next month because I am tired of being alone. Wish I had a drive to go somewhere else because this feels an awful lot like crawling home with my tail between my legs in defeat, but it's hard to work up the motivation to move to where I don't know anyone again since it did not work out so well for me the first time.

If I had someone to go with me, I would sign up with a travel nursing agency and try somewhere different every 13 weeks until I found somewhere that I loved. I think that's a smarter idea than just moving somewhere and taking a permanent job. Travel nursing would give you the ability to look around, meet people, and get a feel for the area without being seen as a job hopper if you left because you didn't like it. Not to mention you get those awesome perks like free housing!

You can still do travel nursing from your home town. Spend 13 weeks having adventures where you don't know anyone, then go home to the comfort of kith and kin. You could have the best of both worlds until your next move presents itself. Good luck!
