Why do people say they work on a busy med/surg unit? It seems like a no brainer that these units are busy.
Do people really think there are slow med/surg units?
What also drives me a little batty is when you ask a co-worker how their day/noc was and they reply *busy*.
I know a silly pet peeve but just had to share my agitation and spread the wealth :)
Nursing is a busy job. That we know. I don't know why people have to be so snarky. If I ask how your day was I already know it was busy and I'm sincerely asking how your day was.
Exactly, and some days are better or worse than others.
There's good busy, bad busy, and OMG, WHEN WILL IT END, busy

What do you find an acceptable answer? Some days/nights are not busy. Most are though about 99% of them. I hate this type of small useless social talk among co -workers. I just start right ahead with report so i can get out of there ASAP!
Weeeeeellllll. I work in a "busy" ltc. Some days are busy, some days are busier then heck and some days are just he!!.
Once in a blue moon we will have a not as busy/ got all my work done/ able to take a lunch/ bunch out on time day. Those are rare and you betta believe I will talk about them!

I think "pet peeve" was mentioned. To quote my son-in-law: "A pet peeve is a pet...only as long as you feed it." Hmmm....
