I want your opinion

I prefer primary nursing, and this is the model I have worked in for most of my career. Team nursing is just too disorganized. You never know who has done what and things can get missed.

Primary nursing!!!! I want to make sure things are done! And since I do it myself, if something gets missed, I have only myself to blame!

Definitely primary care. In team nursing, no one has the time to notice the subtle changes that happen in a patient. They are all too busy looking after everyone. Primary care might be more expensive, but it is much more effective.

I may be one of the few folks on this board who have actually been around long enough to remember team nursing!

Team nursing is great for getting the maximum amount of work done with minimal staff. The basics get done, subtle changes get missed. Not always, but it's definitely harder to catch subtle changes in one of the 15 patients you're caring for as a team leader or team member than in one of the 5 you have in the primary nursing model. All things being equal (and usually they're not!), patients do better with primary nursing, and nurses are happier. But you can't beat team nursing for getting through a shift short staffed.

Definately primary. Prefer to know who, what, wherefores on my pts. and I don't have to go find a team member whose out on yet another "break"

I have done both, but prefer primary nursing. Hands down.

Probably because I am a known control freak, but I want to do everything for my patients, and know everything about them and handle the whole picture and the details all by myself.

primary nursing. Im responsible for all the patients be it 5 for primary or 15 for team leading. Your staff help may be having a good day or a bad. Anyway, the weight of the day varies greatly who is working with you .
