I have two months to study for the NCLEX what should my plan of attack be?

Published

For those who have passed the NCLEX, i would like your input into how i should study for the nclex within such a short time.

I have two months to study for the nclex, I plan on not working for these two months just to focus on the nclex. How should i study for the exam?

I was thinking about registering for Kaplan, using saunders and La charity.

what do think? any other ideas?

thanks

The review book has a lot of questions and then the cd has tons of questions... i think the cd has same questions that are in book though, just by going through the book though you won't get repeat questions like you do with the cd. I'd also get the Q & A book only cause you have so much time. I did the entire review book in 2 weeks or so doing 100 pages a day... I didn't really read the material though just did the questions and answers and read the rationals. Also, I think pretty much everyone has a lot of meds on their exam, so I'd get some cards for those perhaps? or maybe just read the material in the saunders book on that. Hope this helps... feel free to ask anymore questions you have :)

do you think making your own med flashcards is a waste of time? i saw kaplan med cards and saunders.. i also hear that writing it out helps you!?!

meds are scaring me..

I only studied the Saunders 4th edition CD. I finished all 4,214 questions by doing around 250-300 questions per day (500 on weekends) for a span of 3 weeks. I passed with 75 questions. Since you have more time than I did, you can do less per day and add other resources. My plan of attack then was to do the Study Mode, 1 to 2 Content Area per day.

just found out today that i passed! yay me!

question...

how did you do 250-300 questions a day? it takes me about 3 minutes to do each question (read the question, critically think it through, answer it, and then read the rationale, take notes on rationale)

i am averaging 100 questions/day

what is the best way to study saunders q and a? study, quiz or exam mode? which should i do first? thank u

I also do saunders content review because it won't confuse me where to start

No money for kaplan so I resorted to SAunders and NCSBN. We'll see on august..

You can do it with these two resources. Also make an effort to find other review sources at libraries and check them out for free or study in the library. Look for NCLEX on Flashcards: The world's largest online library of printable flash cards , free resource. There are also other flashcard websites that are free to use. Good luck.

Hi everyone! I've been following the NCLEX Forums for the past year. I graduated May 2009 and have taken the Ca BON twice. Just found out today that I failed for the 2nd time. I've taken Kaplan twice (1st time in classroom and 2nd was just online), studied and did Q&A from Saunders, Davis, La Charity and Kaplan Strategies 2010. I took NCLEX-RN 2 weeks ago and got 265 questions. I came out of there crying and just had this feeling I didn't pass. I read a forum on 265 questions and there were stories there that made me have some hope. But unfortunately, as I had mentioned, I just found out today that I didn't pass. :( I am trying to pick myself back up and get back into studying, but need some help. My mom, family and boyfriend have been very supportive and encourage me to not give up. I'm doing my best and have read many inspirational posts from people, whom have endured struggles and have passed. I just need some help and direction as to what I should do next. I've been wanting to access Suzanne's Plan, but I'm aware that it is no longer available. I'm considering enrolling to NCSBN review and even try Kaplan once again. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can direct me in the right path whether it'd be just some study habits, schedules, nclex-rn review, and etc. Please help! Thank you!

Thank you for your advice. I actually have read your post before and it was very refreshing and motivating to read it. I can relate to many of the points you've discussed on your post, especially the part of having faith and praying. Thank you again. I'm praying and hoping to beat this exam the next time. Wish me luck!!

Just do NCLEX style questions and if you dont know a topic or what something means look it up. THATS IT.

I took it 2 weeks after graduating and passed with 75 questions in 55 minutes! Hard as heck and lots of alternate type questions and select all that apply but i did it! I just did a ton of questions the night before :)

I know this doesnt work for some people but it worked for me!
