I think it is time for the MCC hopefuls to start count down

Published

:redbeatheOkay MCC hopefuls, we are under the 45 day mark. Hopefully within 30 days we will at least have our ranking!!:redbeathe

42 days until letter day.....how are you feeling?

Damn....I wish I thought of that!! I was putting all my eggs in the basket called Baker College who does not let you apply to any other program, one at a time is there motto.

Ha, next year I will be the selective admissions queeeeennnnn!!:p

I am sure you will get in one of them....lol.

Raising hand here and adding fuel to the fire! I applied to all of the selective admissions except for Vet Tech. So does my application count as 5 or do they only count me as 2; one app. for Nursing and one for all the other Selective admissions?:trout: I dunno, but I could be responsible for 5 of those 2000 spots and dagnabit I better get called upon in something. I have alot of compassion and caring to give and darnit.. someone's gonna get it whether they like it or not!!!!! :) :heartbeat

:p

Ha ha you are just mad because I am kicking you out of the glass is half full winner spot.:banghead:....lol.

omg lol Shannon!! You sound just like me. :D Hooray for positive thinking...

Shannon, I have more credits too. I only took 11 credits in the Fall semister, so they have to go into the Spring/Summer semister to calculate my GPA. I took 9 that semister. So total I'll have 20 credits :) I'm right with you! I only applied for nursing though. I should have covered my butt a little, but I also didn't know what half those careers were. Nuclear Medicine and Clinical Laboratory? What are those anyways?

All I know is in my head that 2,000 people is a little inflated... I think they do count each applicant for EACH selective admissions area. So, yeah, I applied for (3) areas... so I am sure I am triple counted. Because from the info I've gotten from seminars, and trusted literature... That figure seems pretty high.

I know I don't know their jobs, or their process... but I'm sure this is something they come across EVERY YEAR... SO WHY IN THE WORLD would you NOT publish a due date? Keep people from stop "bothering" them. Plus, where the heck did the "April 15th" date come from. What I have read says something about you should know approx. 6 weeks AFTER the Feb. 15th deadline. HELLO MCFLY! LOL. This is week 6!!!!! I just think it's pretty crappy that they can't commit to a time frame. We all know working without an goal in mind doesn't work! They need a goal date. Why is only (1) person ranking? That's kinda of scary.......

Anyway, ladies and gents... do keep your heads up! This wait is adding to our frustration and worry and bad thoughts. We just got to keep positive. And... now we know the letters aren't coming anytime soon. My Dad is always saying "Have no expectations". Which is easier said than done. The letters are going to effect 99% of us in a big way... so it's hard not to have expectations when so much is riding on those sheets of paper.

But, I can say... their process can use some improving! LOL. I'm sure the one person ranking is working their hiney off (crosses fingers and giving benefit of the doubt). If I were auditing them, this would be a definate "opportunity for improvement" or even a minor noncompliance for keeping their end customer (That's us) in limbo land! LOL.

I only applied for nursing at MCC and I am going to also at Baker. I really hope that they use my 18 credits, I mean 31......really? That is pretty close to triple what everyone else had.

Okay....taking a break for a second.....

Okay does anyone watch TRU Tv's Smoking Gun presents worlds dumbest criminals/drivers?

I am just dying here....lol.

This cop pulled over this girl in a Ford Taurus. The girl says to the cop "I thought cops don't give pretty girls tickets?"

The cop replies: "We don't, sign here".

Bahahaha snap, you got told!!! Epic fail!!!!

I agree they must just be counting each application separately even if there are more than 1 per person. I did not know that MCC allows you to apply to more than 1 program because Baker makes you change your whole major out of nursing to the new one to apply so you really can't do more than 1.

They need a solid due date, not 6 weeks after, when we get done, etc. I wonder if they read the boards since we have been going with April 15 th, which is funny because last year it was April 19 th. I would have assumed that they brought more than 1 person in to rank. I mean in the nursing field you have to have another nurse check your narcotics and double check insulin before you give it, so wouldn't having more than 1 person checking ranking make sense, you know work with a buddy system?....lol. That person is probably living on Xanax right now....lol.

I like your dad, but I do have expectations, I am more the type of I expect not to get in and that way if I don't get in it is only up from there. I thrive on disappointment, makes me stronger.:D It is sad that one paper is going to change so many peoples lives for good or bad though.

MCC needs too improve a lot of things, starting with how they go about these high demand classes.

Can you imagine the job interview this person went through: " So, how are you under stressful situations? Well every year we have 2000 applicants for selective admissions..... and they will stalk you for months during the application process. Oh and I would watch out especially for the nursing students, they tend to bite....lol".

I would be like how much does this job pay??

That has got to be the most amazing thing I have ever read!! OWNED!

I agree completely, although my life won't change much after the letter. I already know it's going to say "DENIED" so my life can keep swimming along in the stagnant pathetic waters it's been in for the past, oh, 23 years...

Unless of course I get accepted. But then that wouldn't really do me any good anyway because I'd keel over and die out of shock. Anyone up for wheeling my corpse to the acceptance seminar?

Bahahah..... I know what 90% of them are, but that is only because I suck and have become a loser with no chance at getting into the RN program, so I had to look around in hope of a career in something. I think we should find out how many applied to each so when I get all my denial letters I can send an application to the lowest applied one, then I can be a winner to....lol.:p

Shannonmarie,

LOL. I'm on the fence also, but haven't yet called myslef a loser:chuckle. Just between the two of us, that is how I feel. :bluecry1: I applied to two other programs RT and ST. I'm pretty sure, I made it into both of those programs, but hands down RN was my preferance. Maybe we should wear a hat, if we make it into another program, so nobody knows were losers:coollook: All joking aside, I keep telling myself the other programs are equally viable options. There will be blessings and challanges with whatever program we end up with or choose to pursue. In the end sometimes the lesser turns out to be the greater. If you are a loser you are one of the funniest I have known...cyber speaking of course.

Hang in there ladies and gents! This is the storm before the calm. In the end, we will all find our way. Realtiy, although transient, has a way of clarifying purpose and passion. We have to remember to keep our expectations/hope properly placed. That is, in yourslelf/your faith and not in any one program.

How about these questions to temporarily distract us from our mail-person and MCC staff: Pick any one or none:)

1. If you make it into the MCC-Rn program what does it say about you or mean to you: If you don't what does it say about you or mean to you?

2. There are many health related professions why nursing?

1. I will be very disappointed if I don't make it in. I have been mourning the possibility everyday; I'm riding the the fence with a 3.9 and 91.2 HESI. I do feel like a bit of a loser.:zzzzz If I don't make it in, than I choose to see my other options as equally viable:) In the end, I sincerely trust sometimes unanswered prayers are in our best interest. Ironically, if I make it in, I'm not sure I will feel like a winner...maybe just really lucky. However, I will jump up and down and maybe run around the block naked. Just kidding!!:chuckle At 40 something that is really scarey, and my children would probalby never recover from my arrest:) Maybe I'll just run around my yard while the kids are in school. :chuckle In addition, I sincerely don't look at others who don't make it in as losers. There are many who may not make it into this program, but will go on to become RNs or equally respectable professionals somewehre else. 2. I've always been in the health profession and nursing is a marketable profession that is very flexible in terms of my military lifestyle.

Everything in life is a competition. There's no shame in "losing" because everyone loses at something.

If you end up an RT instead of an RN that's still a win. They make good money. Definately can support a family on an RT salary.

Lol....okay maybe I am a semi loser. I think that a lot of stuff around home is getting to me and bringing me down. I wish I would have known that MCC lets you apply to other programs at the same time, I just did not think about it. Baker is really strict about applying to one program at a time, you have to change your major to apply to anything else. I did not think about asking the counselors at MCC if they had a different policy, because honestly I only want to be a nurse or teach nursing. I am a funny loser, thanks....lol. At least I take being a loser with a grain of salt I guess....:chuckle

1. If you make it into the MCC-Rn program what does it say about you or mean to you: If you don't what does it say about you or mean to you?

I will be disappointed if I do not get into a RN program somewhere it does not have to be at just MCC. I will keep trying until I have exhausted the options to become a nurse. Honestly, I think that the way MCC goes about their selective admission sucks and that is why they are changing it. To many people are getting in that should not be there. I think it is pathetic that when I talked to a counselor they said "Just take a couple PE and Art classes to get A's for the last 12 classes before you apply." Really??? Baker told me to bring my A game and that it is a lot of work to get into the nursing program. Sorry, if I am in a hospital I rather have a nurse that busted their behind to get into a program than one that excelled in art. I guess I should apologize in advance to anyone that did that, but it is funny that most people are to scared to admit it if they did.

Next year when you have to do the pre-reqs first to get in then the people that worked hard to get in will. I think it just says that I did not take the easy way out and I will be a quality nurse, it might just take longer.

2. There are many health related professions why nursing?

I feel that I have a lot to give to patients, I am not going into nursing for just a paycheck. I really want to help patients feel like they have a nurse that cares about them. I have worked in the medical field for 10 years. Five of those years were in oncology and it made me happy if I touched just one of the patients lives while with them, that they are more than a dollar sign to me that I honestly care about them. Working in oncology is one of the hardest things I have ever done because many of them are going to die, but it is hard not to care and form a friendship with these patients because a lot of the you see several times a week. I have been to many funerals and cried many tears, but they knew I cared. I hate that the new trend is to just get into nursing for the money and the job security, if you have no compassion and caring for people then you have no business being in this profession.

So maybe loser was not the right word, I was just playing....lol.

Shannonmarie,

I knew you didn't really think you were a loser:chuckle I loved reading your reply. Thank you for sharing!!! I wish you would have known about the other options also, but maybe you weren't meant to. :) I 100% agree with you a job like :nurse: requires a real :heartbeat for people.
