I was reported again, this time by the bookeeper......

Published

who claimed that I refused to put a resident on the bedpan. She was walking by me and told me a certain resident told her she needed to have the pan and I said, "Okay, I will get her aide." I spotted the aide around the corner and just a few moments later, she and I both walked back to the resident's room where I left her to put the resident on the bedpan and I went back to my med cart to continue passing what was an already overdue med pass.

Normally I always do whatever I can for the resident without walking a mile to find the aide, but at this particular moment I couldn't do it since I had already just helped three of the aides either transferring residents, repositioning or dressing them. I simply had to get back to my med pass, and it didn't really matter anyway since the aide was just a few feet away and easily accessible.

I thought everything was cool until the supervisor approached me later that day and said that this bookeeper asked her to speak to me about my refusing to put the elderly woman on the bedpan. We actually both just laughed about the absurdity of it and I said to my sup, "Well, it angers me but as long as I have your support I'm cool." To which she replied, "Of course you have my support. I know the work you do. She doesn't know a thing about what we do, except her bookeeping!"

The thing is, this nursing home has the nonnursing administrative personnel walk around on the weekends with a clipboard for four hours observing and marking down anytime someone does something wrong!! They can be bookeepers, secretaries, scheduling clerks, just about anyone who is the farthest thing from a medical professional. Believe me, the nurses absolutely RESENT being spyed on, and of course, now I resent it too.

What a great way to promote morale and good interpersonal relationships, huh? If they are going to use these folks to monitor the professionals you'd think they would at least train them in communication skills, if nothing else.

The good news is that I think I have finally found another job.............I had an interview last week, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I will find out this week whether I have the job. The only thing left to do is pass the drug and background test, and I know those are clean!!!!!!

That is hilarious...a book-keeper reporting you for this nonsense. My suggestion is next time you see that particular person...ask them to help you put a patient on the bedpan...say you just need their help to turn the patient.

Om my.....that's crazy. It's silly that they even pulled you aside to talk about it.

Isn't that a potential HIPAA violation?

Sounds like there needs to be a change in policy. Does nursing staff go into the business office to check on the bookkeeper? Are the CNA's checking behind the work of the CPA's?

Non-clinical personnel has zero business in checking behind clinical personnel. If your DON isn't taking a stand against this ridiculousness, then she has no backbone.

WOOOOOW!!

So nowadays anyone can "supervise" nurses??? A flippin secretary? a bookkeeper? are you kidding me???!! What the heck did we go to school for then?

Thank God you are leaving that place. Your supervisor/DON should be ashamed of him/herself for even for even allowing these "observations" to take place at all.

If you get the new job, excellent.

And then IMMEDIATELY RUN to your sup and "tell" on her, too! LOL

We have the same thing at my OR. They are a couple of MBAs who walk around with clipboards noting how long it takes to complete tasks and anytime someone is late or messes up.

They are providing administrative support, so it's not a HIPAA violation, any more than the unit clerk printing off orders or labels,

I think this will be a new trend in healthcare.

Don't feel bad when i was a Aid / Med Tech i was turned in by a housekeeper once when i worked in a LTC. The complaint was The Housekeeper thought i was to ruff giving medication to this one resident. The resident in question had a CVA and complete paralysis to one side and swallowing problems so giving her meds with pudding was a challenge.

The place i worked had Zero Tolerance on any neglect or abuse. So anyone could go to the DON or the RN Supervisor and say I saw, I heard, true or not and that person would be sent home pending a investigation.

All i knew one minute i was passing meds joking with some aids and minding my own business having a great day. The next thing the DON came walking up the hall saying she had to send me home. I looked at her and said in the middle of med pass? She said yes I'll get a nurse to finish. I got a count out on the cart before i left. And talk about mad i told the DON i would not be back.

Few days later The DON called asking me if i calmed down and asked if i would come back she needs a med tech. I told her no and told her why. ( There's more to it but it would be off topic) Lets just say that housekeeper in question and i had a fall out with and how she cleaned rooms. Your shoes sticking to the floor when walking in a room is not clean sorry. These are my thoughts use them as you wish...

Yes, I agree with Donald. You should be able to pull up a chair behind the bookkeeper and critique her job and probably also how well her desk is organized and whether her bulletin board is attractive or not. Of course, you won't understand a thing she has on her screen, just as she has no clue what the job of a nurse is all about. How fun it must be to step in that place every day!!:uhoh21: I'll send up an extra prayer for something better for you, Vonique!
