Greetings all. I have a weird question for ya'll. I work in Home Healthcare as a CNA and often my clients call me a Nurse. I have no idea why, but it irks me. I don't even remotely consider myself a Nurse. I may have begun that journey, but chickened out and haven't pursued it. So my question; when did you consider yourself a Nurse? Were you in school, working as a Nurse or even working as a CNA or the like? Just curious. S

When I received my license. Be careful about letting your patients call you a nurse as a CNA. Unless they're demented Alzheimer's patients, you really ought to correct them.

When you graduate from nursing school you are considered a graduate nurse because you are trained in the nursing sciences.
One is not legally a nurse until the NCLEX is passed and a state licensure is obtained.
We consider ourselves nurses when we are licensed.

I think when you are licensed as an RN then you can call yourself a "nurse".
....or as an LPN, too, of course.

When the state granted me a license to practice nursing.
I do correct my client and he says that he understands. But he calls me his nurse because I see him more than his real nurse does. It does drive me nuts though. Should I pursue it by the higher ups, so that it doesn't get me into trouble?

Is he lucid & oriented?
just correct him again, and say "call me Goofy," or whatever your name is.
MrChicago. I can say that he has his moments. According to his care plan he is A&O3. He has been more forgetful lately. I like the Goofy part. It's definitely descriptive of my personality. lol
No need, you corrected him. Sounds like he's joking around anyways.

You're a nurse when you're licensed.
Lovely picture, but it's really a bad idea to use your own photo as an avatar. There all whole threads about why this is a bad idea.
