Came in this morning to a maggot taped to a post-it note on the middle of my desk, with a note stating it had been found own a student's backpack. ARE YOU FREAKING KIDDING ME?!?! There it was, right smack-dab in the middle of all of my things. What the heck am I supposed to do about that? I absolutely lost it- although I was able to keep it together enough to not look absolutely nuts. It's that kind of stuff that makes me crazy.
I would be fuming. Curious what you said to the teacher, and what her response to you was.
I basically just told her that I didn't appreciate coming in to find said critter taped to my desk, in the middle of all of my things. I explained to her that this was not a nursing issue, or even a health issue unless we were dealing with a really bad wound or something of that nature. I asked her what I was supposed to do with it and about it?
She really didn't have much to say other than ask me if I documented it. WHAT? Document what? That the little dude was found to be crawling in or on a student's backpack. I don't even know if that's where it originated. I definitely made sure to enforce the fact that I would prefer something like that never make my desk it's home again.

Document the hearsay that a teacher allegedly found a maggot on a backpack?? "Sure. I'll get right on that." Bless. Her. Heart.

I would be livid! But it is the kind of thing that would happen to me too. My thing is why do they think we are the all knowing "bug people". Why do they think it is our job to get rid of said bugs. I mean we can identify lice but I didn't take a bug 101 class in college. They call me all the time because they found a bug on something. Most of the time it is baby roaches and they think they are bed bugs. I honestly for the life of me do not understand why we get all bug calls. I tell them to call an exterminator because I dont know anything about bugs!
And on another note we lived in a neighborhood one time where there were livestock right behind our houses and flies literally in swarms. And for some reason there were maggots on anything we sat outside. We couldnt put our trash out the night before pickup because the bag would be covered in maggots. Our outside furniture had maggots. All our neighbors had the same problem. I guess where ever flies are you have maggots. So them finding one doesn't necessarily mean said students parents were "dirty". Ugh!
