I'm talking to you, the new grad who just took the NCLEX and is now "freaking out" because you can't get an immediate, definitive answer as to whether you passed. This is not a video game where you find out right away whether you got more gold coins or died. This is not even the ICU, where you dial up the pressors and the septic patient's BP goes up right away or it doesn't.

You, and every other NCLEX-taker, should forget the "PV trick" or any other grasp-at-straws method of gaming the official system. By now we expect that you, our new colleague, will be mature enough to wait to get your results from the only definitive source, the state board of nursing.

So it might take an extra day or two, or maybe until Monday. Oh, wow. Did you freak out because you didn't get your Christmas presents on December 22 right after you sat in Santa's lap at the mall? :)

You think you'll always get the answer you want immediately, all the time, every time, for the rest of your life? Newsflash: Not gonna happen. If this is the first time you had to wait, like, gee, 72 hours for something, then consider it practice for the many times this will occur in the rest of your life. If it isn't the first time, then, well, it isn't.

This too shall pass. Patience is a virtue. In a year-- heck, in a month or a week-- it won't matter one bit whether you found out the same day, in 12 hours, or on four days. Yes, I totally get how important getting licensed is to the rest of your life, to all your dreams for your future, to what you're going to say to your friends and family. You think every RN doesn't know that? Of course we do. We all did this before you, remember? However. Deep breath.

Try to act in a mature fashion, like important things have happened to you before and you handled them fine, and don't go around looking (and posting) so middle-school-drama-distraught. You know what? It will be what it will be. Try to hold onto that thought. It's out of your hands now, you did your best, and now you are waiting for the answer like the adult you must be if you have finished a professional course of study.

How do I 'like' this ^^^^^ about a million times???

And back in the day (stop rolling your eyes kids) when it wasn't NCLEX - it was State Boards- and the results came in the mail (as in 'with a stamp on it') WEEKS after the exam, which was only given twice a year in uncomfortable cattle-friendly venues.

We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming.

Hi grntea, I hope all is well with you. While I definitely understand your point, I'm going to have to disagree with you. Taking the NCLEX is a pivotal moment for many students and I believe it's perfectly reasonable to want your results as soon as possible. Pearson has even gone as far as to charge a premium for their quick results service. Getting your results in a timely manner can have a profound impact on your life. Once you know your fate you can better prepare for what lays ahead.

meanmaryjean, your right! I talked to a seasoned nurse awhile back and she said when she took the NCLEX the "Kiss" band was practicing upstairs and they were taking THE test down stairs. Man, has things come along way.

Yes, thank you! I feel like a lot of people just come here to vent and post their frustrations. Granted, this is a "venting" post but it was definitely needed. I don't know all the steps involved with processing nclex results, but I'm sure it's a great deal. I think the biggest issue is figuring out if test-takers are cheating, which is why they updated their cell phone policy in California, requiring people to put it in sealed envelopes throughout the whole test. Even tests in high school and college took a while to get graded, so idk why people aren't used to waiting yet.

I would hardly call the PVT a "grasp at straws" trick when it has worked for 10,000+ nurses on here.

I totally agree!!! What is the point in this "venting" post. I'm proud to be a technology advanced, smart, aggressive new grad full of compassion.. So If I can log online and use a trick to see if I passed NCLEX to help me sleep at night - more power to me and the rest of the new grads!!!

I totally agree... What's the big deal with finding out wether you passed or not by doing the PVT right away?! It's everyone's decision on how they handle their own situations, I personally did the trick myself. It helped ease my stress and helped me relax. So what nurses had to wait 4 weeks back in the day, well times have changed and we are in 2013 where technology is part of everyone's lives. Would you rather wait 4 weeks or within 48 hours?!

Absolutely! I have to say how "mature" is it to purposely create the drama the OP complains about? For many new grads the NCLEX results are their sole focus for weeks to months, so yeah being impatient for the results is understandable. If you do not like the posts from all of the NCLEX test takers, then don't read them. It seems you've forgotten the excitement, anxiety, and relief associated with actually seeing your name with a license number.

And what do you do, after doing the PVT, you get your official failing results? There have been at least two recent threads by posters who recieved the "good pop-up," yet they still failed.

I agree with GrnTea. Either wait for the results or pay the premium for the quick results.

California residents do have to wait about a month for results by mail. The "trick" sure does put your mind at ease.
