I got my NCLEX results today...

Nursing Students NCLEX

Today I got my NCLEX results, and EVERY category was 'near the passing standard.' I thought something would be above the passing standard. That makes me angry! I have taken NCLEX twice now. The thing is, one cannot get excited because supposedly they "almost passed", because the results of the next attempt could be worse. Plus, I have read posts where people say they got 265 questions on two attempts. I guess this means they were "close to passing" both times. That bites. Ugh! What do you think?

Here's a suggestion. Study the rationales for all the answers --even the ones you got right on the practice tests. If you do enough of them, you will see the gist of the correct answers and see that patterns do emerge in the rationales.

I got very good at pyche questions because they did have some strong themes for lack of better word. Good luck,

I had extremely good results using Mosby's CAT (online version) to prepare. Everyone I have suggested use it, who has, has also had the same experience.

Sometimes it isn't what you know, but how comfortable you are at managing those test questions. This test was so like the NCLEX (except the items are different, of course) that it was hard to believe it wasn't put out by the NCLEX people.

Including tax, it was about $40. Cheaper than most of the books I found, way back when I was looking for NCLEX books.....

The subscription lasts 30 days, and you can use it as many (or as few) times as you want. It gives you your percent correct but more important (since it adjusts the difficulty of the next question based on whether you got the last one right or wrong, just like the NCLEX), it gives you a probability of passing and a breakdown of what areas you should review or which ones you seem to have a good grasp of.

I thought it was an excellent tool.

Good luck to you. Don't give up. You only fail when you quit trying.

I used the Mosby CAT but I found that the questions weren't similar. I took it a few times and did well on it. I also did well (or in the "passing range") on my Kaplan test. I'm so annoyed!!!!! This time I'm still going to study but I'm going to try and relax too. It's hard not to be nervous because so much rides on this test!

I have a question for you. I have not taken the Nclex yet but I will someday I hope. I am going in to my 3rd semester. When you say you almost passed. What is the % your talking about I am just wondering. b/c I would like to know how they break it down. We take LSRN test at school and they give you a % grade but the break down the nursing process in % to I was just wondering if it was even the same. Good luck to you and don't give up. Michele

To my knowledge, there is no percentage. From what I have read, when you get the maximum number of questions, the computer is trying to decide if you have yet met the level of competency. It's a pass/fail exam. 75 is the minimum, & if you get 75 & pass, you did very well, if you get 75 & fail (like me, the first time), you were not doing well. Somehow or another the powers that be have determined that getting the maximum questions means one was "close" to passing. This is how I understand it anyway.

Im very sorry to hear about your result. As with a few of the other threads going around the student forums, it is often harder to be so close to what we really desire, whether that be a grade or a result of a test such as NCLEX. When you come so close it is much too easy to beat up on yourself. Please don't do this. Look at your results this time as proof that you are making progress in your studying and keep on working. If you were really close to passing in all areas, then most of your problem probably was stress, and by beating yourself up you will just be increasing this. Just keep practicing, use positive thinking, and be strong in the knowledge that next time will be the time that you will shine :)

Thank you, that is very nice. Especially, 'if you were close to passing, in all areas, then most of the problem was probably stress'. Everyone here is so supportive.

Thank you for the information. I think I referred to you in one of my other posts regarding the Mosby website. There are so many NCLEX materials to choose from, & what one person thought was good, another person hated. This is what makes it difficult to choose "good" study materials. Thanks again Chris.

You're RIGHT! A lot does ride on this test. For me, it's not only getting on with my life, it's also having a job PERIOD! I have no benefits right now, & no source of income! I got a job last week (haven't started it yet). The guy asked me during the interview, "Are you sure you want to apply for this position? I saw that you have a degree in Nursing." I was too ashamed to tell him what was up with that, because he seemed so impressed, so I told him that I wanted to make some money while I was studying to take the exam. My "job" pays $8.50/hr. (3 times less than what I was making as a new grad while using my interim permit). But I am thankful that this job was available. Otherwise, soon & I mean VERY soon, my dogs might only be able to eat their dog food once a day, instead of twice, because I would have to make sure there would be enough of it left for me! :)

Good luck to you pie. That scares me. I'm going to take the NCLEX in February. I'm doing Kaplan next month, and plan to get a cd-rom called NCLEX 3000. We can use your schools computer lab until May, so I'm going to go there for a couple of hours a week to review their computer programs. I'm also reading over a lot of my med surg, ob, peds, and psych material. I made up a little method called read, write, record. While I'm reading, I'm going to record what I'm reading on a little tape recorder that I'll replay when I'm driving, cooking, going to bed, in the shower, etc. I'm also going to write up note cards of lab values, meds, etc. That I can review when I'm at stop lights (in the car), in the bathroom (gross, but hey!), wherever.
