I got my NCLEX results today...

Published

Today I got my NCLEX results, and EVERY category was 'near the passing standard.' I thought something would be above the passing standard. That makes me angry! I have taken NCLEX twice now. The thing is, one cannot get excited because supposedly they "almost passed", because the results of the next attempt could be worse. Plus, I have read posts where people say they got 265 questions on two attempts. I guess this means they were "close to passing" both times. That bites. Ugh! What do you think?

Sorry about your not passing. Just don't give up, you've come too far...study up some more, and take it again!!! From what I've read on this site is there are some really good nurses that had to take it several times as well.

BTW, 265 right out of how many? How many questions are on the NCLEX?

Good luck! :nurse:

I'm sorry you didn't pass the NCLEX. I can't tell you I know how you feel except to say that I did fail my CPNE the first time and know the feeling of being so discouraged. You passed nursing school so you know you can pass NCLEX. If it's text anxiety see about getting some Ativan or Xanax to help you relax next time. It worked for me. Grab those NCLEX CD-ROM's and keep doing them over and over again until you're absolutely sick of them. You really can't study for the NCLEX, you already know what you need to know but you do need to practice taking the test. Good luck and keep your eye and your heart on your goal, you'll get there!

Hi Pie :)

I think that is something to be happy about...you were close. I did worse my second time went from 101 first time to 75 the second time. I wish I could at least get 265. I know how you feel, but one day it will happen. Next time!! I like the ativan idea...maybe that could help with the anxiety which I think gets worse everytime. Let me know what you are going to study with next time...I really don't think Kaplan is the answer anymore. I looked into the NCSBN review, and I think I am going to get Lippincott and Saunders and read and do questions cover to cover. I am sending off for yet another ATT tomorrow.

So sorry..........don't give up hope!

I got the entire 265 questions. That is the maximum. The minimum is 75.

I am going to use a Saunders book that I have, it has a CD with lots of questions on it. They are not set up like NCLEX, but it's good for content. I didn't use the Saunders book this time. I have also heard good things about a book by Lippincott. I am going to go to Barnes & Noble & look at some of their boooks, before I buy one, IF I decide to buy another one. Somoeone on this site named Chris has said good things about a site by Mosby, I'm thinking about checking that out. 3 of my former classmates also took Kaplan and all of them failed on their 2nd attempt as well. I tried the anti-anxiety route, after my first attempt. My doctor wouldn't give me anything like Ativan or Xanax...she said they were addictive, & that my anxiety regarding this test was "normal." She did put me on Lexapro, which she said is for depression & anxiety. I am a bit less reactive about things, I have to admit. The 2nd time, I should have rescheduled, but I didn't. I can say that I didn't know as much content as I thought I did, & I also need to work on 'how' to answer the questions. I hope this post makes sense, I am tired & not feeling very well. Good luck to you.

Keep practicing 50 to 100 questions a day if possible. Really look at the answers you got wrong, force yourself to figure out why wrong. make index card with info you keep forgetting. For godsake know basic normal labs, vital signs. Know developmental milestones. I got at least 8 to 10 questions on this. There is basic information that every nurse should know. The nclex is assessing to see do you know the basics. When it asks a questions such as a 3 month old baby does not lift his head, should the mother be worried? You need to know WHEN developmentally a baby should do this. Make study guides with columns next to each other listing ages & what baby should do when, when certain shots. make all sorts of study guides, helps you study while making them, then read over and over, plus practice tests over and over, promise you will pass, just have to be through in your studyings. Plus good advice to get antianxiety meds, nothing wrong with that if anxiety gets in the way of studying or test taking. Good luck to you all. Let us know when you pass soon!!!!!!!

I have a question for you. I have not taken the Nclex yet but I will someday I hope. I am going in to my 3rd semester. When you say you almost passed. What is the % your talking about I am just wondering. b/c I would like to know how they break it down. We take LSRN test at school and they give you a % grade but the break down the nursing process in % to I was just wondering if it was even the same. Good luck to you and don't give up. Michele

Im very sorry to hear about your result. As with a few of the other threads going around the student forums, it is often harder to be so close to what we really desire, whether that be a grade or a result of a test such as NCLEX. When you come so close it is much too easy to beat up on yourself. Please don't do this. Look at your results this time as proof that you are making progress in your studying and keep on working. If you were really close to passing in all areas, then most of your problem probably was stress, and by beating yourself up you will just be increasing this. Just keep practicing, use positive thinking, and be strong in the knowledge that next time will be the time that you will shine :)

Hi Pie

I got the entire 265 and passed. Our board of nursing came and chatted with us before graduation about the dreadful NCLEX. Yes 75 is minimum and 265 is maximum, but some testers are randomly chosen to get the maximum number to basically test for accuracy of the quality of the question or something. Keep trying and make sure you take all the time you need for each question. If it shuts off at 4 1/2 hours and you didn't take all the questions, it will judge you on the last 60 questions that you answered. Good luck!! Soon you will have something to celebrate!

Pie,

You and are are sort of in the same boat. I failed twice as well and I am not sure what to do. I took Kaplan and I felt that it was very beneficial. I feel like the questions were sort of similar to the NCLEX. It seems like all the other review books are too easy, so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

I don't know how I feel about antianxiety meds, I don't want to mess with my head you know? I'm at a loss too,....I just don't know what to do. Let me know if you have any advice!
