Hi everyone. I have never posted here before but today I have some good (make that GREAT) news!!!
I got accepted to Nassau Community College's evening nursing program! They only accept about 35 people so I was VERY nervous!
Well, I just wanted to share my news! I look forward to being on this website a lot more often now. :)
Hi!They look at all grades needed for the major and nothing else. They will look at the microbiology even though you took it at another college. I applied for the fall 2006 but did not get in. I have a 3.4 gpa for the classes needed for the program. I will retaking algebra again this summer to bring up my grade from a C+.
I know people who have graduated from there. It is very tough but very good.
Good luck
the first step is to get in!!! and then JUST WAIT it gets worse and worse hah.. My teacher at Nassau said she hasnt had a student with an A in years! She said even if your used to getting A's you better get used to NOT getting A's! HAHA hows that for a heart attack?
NurseMeme:I applied for the fall but did not get in. My grades are pretty good except for the C+ in math. I will be retaking it over the summer.
My question is that it states in the catalog and the paperwork I received from the department that they would accept either Microbiology or AHS 105. I could not get into micro so I am taking AHS 105. Do you know of anyone who took AHS 105 and got into the program.
Thanks
Yes someone in the current NUR 101 program at nassau took AHS 105 however.. when you go to get your bachelors they will not accept AHS 105.. Only Microbiology.. I suggest taking MICRO the summer after you get in to Nur101.. this way the low grade you get in it wont hurt your GPA.. As for night classes... Unless your a genius you probably wont be able to work more than 20 hours a week and get through the program.. If you are then you should definitely think about medical school! BTW i just found this site and ITS GREAT!
I have a question for those who have been accepted already... I went to the nursing seminar in April of 08 and when asked if there were interviews the woman conducting the seminar was very strict in saying no interviews, no letters of recommendation I don't care if your mother is the principle of the school bla bla bla its all based on the numbers. But yet I am always overhearing people in my classes talking about how there is an interview process and even if you get a letter of acceptance it does not mean you are in you still have to interview.. is this true? Is there really a secret interview or is it just gossip. Thanks!
Love-Nursing I'm a graduating nurse you will see EXACTLY why they are so competitive because if you think Pre REQ'S are hard you will be in the shock of your life. You must remember the reason why any nursing program is so competitive is that your making life and death decisions. They judge you so critically because the workload you will incur is amazing sometimes i study for 9 hours a day for 6 days in a row, Some students do this and they still struggle that is why you should take that factor into consideration. Lastly it takes a certain type of a person to become a nurse and most nursing programs filtrate people who they think wont succeed out simply not to waste there time and the individuals time.
I guess everyone is different, I have a B+ average and I study sparingly ..I spend the majority of time working on process records. I guess the time and preparation you put into the process records are pretty much linear to the curriculum. I know its going to get harder, but its doable.
The interview is literally 45 seconds, no big deal. Ive been to other nursing interviews which lasted 20-30 minutes, NCC is straightforward.
Man I love this school.
Hi, hope you don't mind my barging into your conversation. I'm also attending NCC. I'm applying for the Fall '09 nursing class. I attended the nursing seminar last Spring that was conducted by the chairwoman of nursing. She explained that part of the acceptance process was a face-to-face interview. I'm not sure if this interview happens prior to your acceptance letter, or as a conditional part of your acceptance letter.
Anyhow, from what I understood, the interview is to make sure that all nursing candidates understand and communicate effectively in English.
Hope this helps and good luck!

LoveNursing422, Thanks a lot for the info! I wasn't unable to attend the prep class 'cause i work nights. I hope the nursing department would give me a copy of the syllabus, that would be awesome.
Thanks again!
