SUNY Farmingdale vs. NCC
Hi Neeniebean, Could you tell me what was the application process like? I was curious to know how they calculate GPA. I was credits from a previous college. Would they calculate all the courses I took or just the courses that are relevant to the major? Thanks!

SUNY Farmingdale vs. NCC
Hi. I am starting the nursing program at NCC this fall. I know that NCC has a great reputation. However, I am thinking about transferring to SUNY Farmingdale because they have class flexibility and offer more liberal arts courses that go toward a bachelor's degree. Many of my co-workers said NCC is great but I haven't heard of anything about SUNY Farmingdale. Does anyone currently attend or know about their program? If so, what is there application process like? How do they calculate your GPA? I have college credits from another school and NCC only calculated the courses the goes toward my degree. Currently, I have 30+ credits and GPA 3.9. I would greatly appreciate your input. Thanks in advance! :balloons: :monkeydance: :balloons:

CNA Question's.
Hi. I want to take the CNA training course at a vocational school. I heard that hospitals don't require CNA without hospital experience. Does anyone know if this is valid?

How do I become a nurse's aide?
Pdpeanut, thanks for sharing your experience. I am a pre-nursing student and I want to gain experience right now as a CNA. Do hospitals hire CNA without prior hospital experience? I'm afraid if I take the course, no one would hire me.

Tips for sucessful study habits
Based on my experience, most of the exams are based on lecture. For this semester, my professor told us exactly that and some specific reading from the text. I religiously record all my lectures. I attend all my classes and write down everything. A week before examination, I go through all my class notes again and listen to the recorded lectures. I study the summary of each chapter of the text and all the figures/charts/illustration. I have a great textbook by Martini, but the details are intensive and by the end of the chapter, I am unable to remember everything. I feel this method is great for me 'cause I always get an A.

How did you find out about allnurses?
Googled. I'm lucky that I found this site. It has been a comfort knowing what to expect in the future as a RN.

Tips for nurses in their first year of nursing
Hi asilmk, when I read your post it made me feel very upset because I don't understand why people would act that way. I'm sorry that happened to you. I have read all the "1st year postings" and they are very helpful. I noticed that some nurses made comments such as doctors/nurses will "yell" when you make a mistake, respond rudely when they you asked a dumb question. To me, that is absurd. My situation is that I have been working in sales for many years but I always felt it is a calling for me to go to become a nurse. I am currently a nursing student and I love it. But from what I have read from you and a few other postings, i feel discouraged. Is this treatment from senior nurses and doctors common?
