Taking it one day at a time

ajs08RN's Latest Activity

  1. I heard that I can become an LPN while I'm in school for ADN. Does anyone know about this? From what I've been told, after I take Nursing Process I & II, I can take the LPN boards. I start my program in May and if this is true I could be a LPN by Aug.-Sept.?

    Math Competency Req. Study Guides

Does anyone know of some helpful study guides. Something that will help me with problems like, Order: Metoclopramide hydrochloride 5mg. Po Label: Ten mg scored tabs how many tab should be administered per dose?________ I would like something that gives me examples on how to do these types of problems. My ADN program starts May 10th and from what I understand a 90% is required on a math test that will be given during the first week. Thanks for the help.
  4. This is a really scary post:uhoh3: !!!!!!!! I start BCCs ADN program in May 06. I ask anyone in the program about it and ofcourse they say it's tough. Some tell me you have no life but it's worth it in the end. I also had one guidance counselor tell me they purposely make Nursing Process I difficult to get rid of the weak. I consider myself strong but I must admit I'm really nervous:uhoh3: :uhoh21:

    The Weaning Out Class!!!!

Okay, so how do I prepare myself? I don't have time to take a critical thinking class. What can I do? I've waited entirely too long to get to this point and I won't be "weeded OR weaned" out.

    The Weaning Out Class!!!!

Over the weekend I spoke with a friend of my family, who just happens to be a Counselor at the school I'm attending. Anyway he told me that Nursing Process I is used to wean out the weak. This is the very first class you take and now I'm nervous:uhoh3: . I start the ADN program in May . I'm not saying I'm weak but I just don't know what to expect:chair: .

    I Am An Rn!!!!!!!

    congrats!!!!!!!!! :biggringi :smiley_aa
  8. I was accepted to the May ADN class . But now I'm nervous because I know I don't have good study habits. I just wanted to get some input from some people that are the totally opposite. What works best for you? Taping lectures? Reading chapters, and highlighting? Index cards? I feel like sometimes I read the entire chapter and I absorb absolutely nothing. I listen to the lectures and try to write down everything that was said instead of the key points. I want to do my absolute best in the program, and I don't want this to stop me. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    I'M FREAKING OUT!!!!!! Not Again.......

I hope I'm okay but that's my dilemma, I don't understand what the email is really saying. I'll have the class done before the program starts in May it ends April 27th. The class is called Health Career Core(HCP0130). I have tried to call everyone with a title that works for the program. Like I said I meet with admissions on the 6th but I just wanted some reassurance before then, I guess. I wanted to know if anyone else has maybe had a similar experience.
  12. In November I received a call from the Nursing program. I was being selected for the January(Winter) Term. I was so excited!!!!!:balloons: But................ and there is always a but:angryfire , When I told them I didn't complete a class because I thought I could take it while I was in the program I was told I would have to wait until the next opening. The rules had changed and this class now had to be taken before entering the program. Devastated can't begin to explain how I felt:cry: . I had to go before the admission board to request a deferral of my seat:bowingpur , which they approved granted I enrolled in the class and completed it by the next term. Which I did(enrolled, that is). I assumed the next term started in August(Fall). WRONG AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! About two days ago I received another called telling me that i am being selected for the May(Spring) Term. My required class starts March 2 and ends April 27. An email they sent me says registration starts March 1st and that all required paperwork needs to be completed no later than March 31st. How can this be done my class doesn't end until April 27. I can't miss another entrance term. My heart can't take the disappointment. I've been waiting on this for TWO YEARS. Someone please give me some words of encouragement. Tell me you've been through this before and everything turned out okay. I have a meeting with the admission department on Feb 6. But I am truly losing it:uhoh3: . Will I ever get into this program? Will I ever become a nurse:nurse: ?

    Nurses and smoking

If a person smokes or not is not my concern as long as they take care of THEIR patients.
  14. I'm in the "waiting list " club also:lol2: . I hope I hear something soon but I'm sure I won't know until March.

    Hi from Jacksonville

I'm considering moving to Jax soon, and this just freaked me out:uhoh21: :uhoh21: :uhoh21:
  16. My mother, father and aunt are all LPNs, but not me noooo, I was not going to be a nurse:selfbonk: . I didn't want to clean poop and vomit :barf01: for the rest of my life (this was obviously my thought before I had children, because that fear went right out the window as soon as I gave birth:lol2: ). I was going to climb the corporate ladder:typing . No, my job didn't pay top notch:twocents: ,but there were great benefits and room to grow. After 5 years, 2 kids and a husband I was laid off . One day while crying my eyes out:bluecry1: my LPN, poop and vomit cleaning, gainfully employed aunt asked me a question,"Do you want a job with security, growth, good benefits and good pay?", of course I said yes, she told me to give nursing a try:nurse: . Now, because these are my reasons does that mean I'm going to neglect my patients NO WAY , I think it means just the opposite:kiss . Why would I jeopardize my job security, growth, benefits and PAY. I will do my job and do it well.
