Does anyone know of some helpful study guides. Something that will help me with problems like,
Order: Metoclopramide hydrochloride 5mg. Po
Label: Ten mg scored tabs
how many tab should be administered per dose?________
I would like something that gives me examples on how to do these types of problems. My ADN program starts May 10th and from what I understand a 90% is required on a math test that will be given during the first week. Thanks for the help.

Dosage Calculations Made Incredibly Easy...you can usually find it on the shelf at Books-A-Million or order it on-line. Very easy to read.

I tutor people at my school with Dosage Calc. I'd be glad to show you how to do this problem. You need to remember specific formulas. For this one, you would use the D/H x Q. You will use this formula a lot. This one you could do in your head, but if you get into the habit of using the formula, you will only benefit. There are harder problems than this!
D=Dose Ordered
H=Amount on hand
Q=quantity to be given
Remember! Your D and H have to be in the same unit of measure always to use this formula. In this particular problem, the D and H are already in the same unit.
So, your D= Metoclopramide hydrochloride 5mg
H= 10 mg scored tabs
Q= quantity to be given will be in tablets
So, take 5mg/10mg x 1 tab
Your mg cancel eachother out so, take 5/10=0.5
Then, 0.5 x 1 tab= 1/2 tab
