I am going to waste like 1 year of life...

If your area is like mine you will have to take college algebra no matter what, its both a nursing school reqirement and a pre-req to stats. I took up thru pre-calc in High School and Calc while in the Military, and am currently in college algebra. But its all ok, its a fun class (Fairly Easy A, but doesnt help my GPA, yet), its the only reason I am full time this semester, and it focuses on the things in Algebra that are really important.

But my sugestion to you is to go to whatever college you plan on going to and get some counciling. I have seen you post here alot and I really think you could use a plan that only your future college can provide, somthing to provide you some focus as I know you cant get it from your highschool as it doesnt quite exist.

On that, you are set to graduate this year, but you are 16, so if you do waste a year of your life you are still entering college at 17, and thats 8 years younger than I was when I started college. On that I notice some of the problems you are having with your classes but you have a 4.0, which makes me question the quality of your highschool classes. Thats not your fault, alot of high schools are not properly perparing their students for college. However, given that situation, it certainly wouldnt hurt to take some very basic classes in college to get yourself up to speed. This is very important as grades matter for both acceptance into Nursing School and a CRNA program.

1) get a copy of your HS transcripts

2) write down alot of your questions about your future that you posted here so you can ask the councilor

3) go to your planned college and have them set you up with a 4-5 year plan, they can assign you classes to take ever semester if you ask them to (at my school I was able to pass on history in favor of philo and speech).

Don't underestimate the value of geometry. The ability to do mathematical proofs is very important in nursing. It is part of the foundation of logical thinking and problem solving -- things that you will use daily as a nurse.

If you messed up in high school ... then you'll just have to "suck it up" and go to summer school to make up any deficiciencies. In the long run, that's no big deal.

llg is sooooo right. You will be surprised by the classes you never thought you needed or would use again. The idea is to improve your thought processes and critical thinking skills.

Sweetie CALM DOWN!! it seems bad but its really not. I think that is so very awesome that as a junior you realize how important these things are, whihc may seem late to you. My daughter is also a junior. now let me tell yo about wasting time. i had my oldest daughter at 16 and then went on to have 3 more. ended up divorced at 21. I have wanted to be an RN since I was 18. when i was 18 i got my CNA and wanted to go to nursing school, but life didnt allow it...now at 32 years old i am going back...starting ALL over again. i never got chem and algebra in high school so its like doing that again too. So i know what it feels ike to wasyte time, i have wasted so much of it. so take a deep breath and know that even though you are a bit behind for YOUR expectations, you really are doing great in the greater scheme of things. many people your age have no cliue what they even want to do, or dont even care at all!! so mad props to you!! you sound very mature and that and ambition will take you far. now where i am, Utah we have a thing called electronic high school where you can take classes online through the district while goignto reg school also, maybe they have something like that. your school counsleor should be able to help you sort that out. but worst case when you go to college you will test and be placed wherever your score puts you and atleast for my school there is prealgebra, elem alg then alg 2 then stats, so worst case if u must take the geometry you prob will only be set back a semester, which really wont be bad. and actually you will be surprised how much geometry comes in handy. best of luck to you and keep up the good work :)

I didn't learn anything in freshman or sophomore year, I lost 2 years of high school. I didn't realize how important school was until junior year! I was suppose to be taking Algebra 2 in freshman year and I'm only taking Algebra 1 and I'm a junior! Now that I ruined my future a bit, I don't want to take geometry after algebra 1 because then I will end up having to take Algebra 2 in college. I already know basic geometry, I don't think I will need it in nursing. If I take Algebra 2 and not geometry, I can go right into statistics in college.
What should I do, if my school won't let me!

Waste a yr? If you do not already know it and will need it, then it will not be a waste at all. Get a plan and stick with it. No need to freak out over things you can not change. I took College algebra when I was 27 and followed that with stats. I was not required to take any other math. If the school you are looking at has a lot of "hassles" that you do not want to deal with, then look for another college. Otherwise chill a bit and take your classes as they come, not stressing over classes that are 2-3 years away.

You can't change what has already happened, but you can buckle down and change the future. It's NEVER too late. Just ask all the people who are going back to College later on in life. I am one of them. Things happen, changes for the good as well as the bad but everything you do in life is a chance to learn there is a reason for everything. Just don't give up before you even begin. I still have a long ways to go, but I don't look at anything as wasted. Everything I have done has been for a reason, and I am where I am supposed to be. Working on where I am going. Talk to your guidance counselor and see what your options are. But you have to take the pre-reqs before entering into the Nursing program, just keep that in mind. Do your best this year/ and if you have to take summer school to get where you want to be then do it! BUT KNOW THAT YOU CAN DO IT. This is just the beginning. :clown:

If you are 16, you most likely can start community college classes while still enrolled in high school. If you can not get a math class this summer between junior and senior years, take a college level class and get your high school to accept the credits toward your high school diploma. But be aware that you will most likely have to take a math placement exam prior to being allowed to enroll in any college math classes. Or, just take the high school level class this summer. Most high schools will not let you take algebra 2 without geometry and geometry is required for graduation. Check with your guidance counselor to see what the requirements are at your school.
