I didn't get into UTSAHSC BSN program..

Nurses General Nursing

So I think that's it for nursing for me. I'm not one to retake classes over and over until I get a 4.0 because I think that's a waste of time.. I think I will go and finish a Science degree, not sure what yet. If I'm still interested in Nursing, I might pursue it after I finish my BS degree..

Big bummer, but I had planned a Plan B because I know my 3.5 would not get me in.

Just thought I'd share! :yelclap:

there is more than one nursing school out there. don't give up if nursing is what you want.

Don't give up if nursing is what you really want to do. I've waited 5 years and have been rejected twice and finally was accepted to TWU. If it is what you love and want to do with your life then try other schools as well and re-apply next semester. Good luck!

If nursing is what you want to do, do not change your mind because of one school. There are other schools out there with different admission criteria. My school recently changed because of your very reason. Now, I think as long as you pass your prereques with a 2.5, you will be accepted. The only downside is that I have been waiting for a year with no classes to take because of how many students can now get in. This just changed so I don't know how it will be effecting the drop out rate in the future. To those of us who have higher GPA's it is kind of unfair that it is changed at the last minute like this but I can certainly understand. Why not check into a community college...just look around in your area for other possibilities. Don't settle on second best.

If you don't mind waiting a little longer get your ADN from SAC or Baptist Hospital (not sure if they are still running) then come back and enroll at UTHSCA in the flex program. I got in with I think a 3.1.

There's more than one way to skin a cat.

Don't give up to easy. Nursing school can be very challenging in more than one way so be very sure and determined to reach your goal.

I am sorry that you did not get accepted, I really am, but if everyone gave up as easily as you are than there would be no new nurses. Many people do not get in on their first try. If you really want to be a nurse, you won't just give up.

This is one of the reasons that I am getting my LPN first. You avoid waiting lists and have a much easier time getting accepted to a bridge program. (in my area, atleast) Not that it is easy to get into a LPN program either, but i theres not as many hoops to jump through as there is for direct entry to a ADN or BSN program.

Good Luck to you.

Read my signature, I understand the insanity! :uhoh3:

I also agree with the others that you should not give up if this is what you want. On the other hand, it is your choice to find something else if waiting or re-taking classes is not in your best interest.

Besides, earning a BS degree is not necessarily the end of your Nursing School journey. You may even change your mind and bridge over to a BSN later. Good luck!!!

Whatever you do, don't give up. There's plenty of nursing schools in texas. I'm going into my 4th semester in the fall at Stephen F Austin. I didn't get in innitially when I applied, but I was wait listed and got in when someone else got out. My GPA was probably one of the lower GPA's allowed in our semester. Now that I got in, I'm doing better than about half of the people who were accepted ahead of me.

Hang in there, one school means absolutely nothing. Some schools are harder to get into than others, btu that doesnt mean the other schools aren't just as good.

This is exactly why I am getting my LPN first. I am not a straight A student. Did not get a 4.0 with my first BS degree. Got a 3.5 and thought that was good enough. Not going to stress myself out over grades. I will just get the LPN (I just got accepted for fall 06) and then bridge over.

I got rejected from the Houston universities for 2 years in a row. I dealt with rejections with vodka and reconsidered nursing, but eventually I discovered ADN programs at community colleges (I had previously thought that community colleges only offered pre-nursing classes). Once I discovered such ADN programs, I could apply to 3 more schools and increase my chances. I am currently enrolled in HCC's pharmacology class, which hopefully will get me into the nursing program. Don't give up! Nursing school is deadly competitive, and there's no shame in looking elsewhere of taking the backdoor. I hear that it's much easier to get a BSN once you have a degree.

I agree with all the replies you're receiving. Apply to as many programs as possible. There are many routes to that RN certification. There is also more than one route to a BSN, if that's what you prefer to have. It all depends on whether or not you wish to become a nurse. What is your back up plan? Why is it your back up plan? I think people with back up plans are setting themselves up to.... fall back on their back up plans....

Well, first off, my backup plan (Now real plan haha) is to get a BS in Bio and then go from there. Thank you all so much for your support, but I do not have the patience to apply to other places and be on waiting lists. Also, I have about 80 hrs, I would really feel like I"m going backwards if I applied for an ASN program right now. I used to be all about Nursing, but I've just lost the drive. I feel like saying, if I'm not good enough for your program, your program isn't good enough for me. I know that may sound awful, but it's helping right now. The application deadline was Feb 1 and I just heard back from them on monday (may 8), so that whole time I was looking at different science programs, or even health science programs that would interest me. Pre-nursing students are so talented and gifted, I think there are other fields that would be happy and privileged to have them... and ME!! And I know, if I want to go into it later, I can apply then. And I might just get my BS and then apply for a BSN. It's all up in the air.. and to top it all off, I ran into a former Professor at school today. I told her I had applied and didn't get in, and she acted like it was a joke I even applied at all with a 3.5.. and then she blew me off and walked away with another student talking on and on about med school :angryfire

Ugh. It's enough to make me quit it all and go get a job at starbucks. hear their benefits are wonderful!
