  1. Hello everyone. I am back after a year away- I didn't get into a BSN program and got very discouraged, so I switched my degree to Bio and just have a year left. It's discouraging that I have to take a few classes over because the jr. college/lower level classes wouldn't count (give me a break, my classes there were harder!) but I think overall I am happy with my decision. And, I think I will apply to some accelerated BSN programs after I graduate. I love nursing, I just don't like the infrastructure of some of the schools, and the fact like I was being told I wasn't "good enough" for anything. Well that's my feelings, fwiw. look forward to reading your discussions again!
  2. oh my gosh, I hate that, if I'm half asleep I just fall back in bed.. If i'm awake, i try to stretch it a bit first.. but for about five minutes I walk around like I've been riding a horse for a week straight. no fun.
  3. really?? Which program, bummer I thought I was up on all the accepted gpas....
  4. Well, first off, my backup plan (Now real plan haha) is to get a BS in Bio and then go from there. Thank you all so much for your support, but I do not have the patience to apply to other places and be on waiting lists. Also, I have about 80 hrs, I would really feel like I"m going backwards if I applied for an ASN program right now. I used to be all about Nursing, but I've just lost the drive. I feel like saying, if I'm not good enough for your program, your program isn't good enough for me. I know that may sound awful, but it's helping right now. The application deadline was Feb 1 and I just heard back from them on monday (may 8), so that whole time I was looking at different science programs, or even health science programs that would interest me. Pre-nursing students are so talented and gifted, I think there are other fields that would be happy and privileged to have them... and ME!! And I know, if I want to go into it later, I can apply then. And I might just get my BS and then apply for a BSN. It's all up in the air.. and to top it all off, I ran into a former Professor at school today. I told her I had applied and didn't get in, and she acted like it was a joke I even applied at all with a 3.5.. and then she blew me off and walked away with another student talking on and on about med school :angryfire Ugh. It's enough to make me quit it all and go get a job at starbucks. hear their benefits are wonderful!
  5. So I think that's it for nursing for me. I'm not one to retake classes over and over until I get a 4.0 because I think that's a waste of time.. I think I will go and finish a Science degree, not sure what yet. If I'm still interested in Nursing, I might pursue it after I finish my BS degree.. Big bummer, but I had planned a Plan B because I know my 3.5 would not get me in. Just thought I'd share! :yelclap:
  6. Wonderful- Thanks so much!!
  7. Hello Friends! I haven't posted here in month d/t schedule, etc But, if I don't get into a BSN program for the fall, I'm thinking of becoming a CNA and doing that while I finish a science degree. Question is, Do I find a program and get certified on my own, or is that something a facility trains you for when you get hired? And what is the difference between a CA and CNA. My friend was a CA and basically said he just did whatever the nurses asked him to do. Also, how long would training take? And don't worry, I'm a worker bee, I'll be a great help to Nurses.. THANKS!
  8. OMG YES!? Are you kidding!! I'm applying to UT in San Antonio, TX with a 3.419 and think I will get laughed at. I think it's ridiculous how high the standards are, and how there is such a shortage of nurses, but a HUGE surplus of extremely intelligent applicants being denied. If I don't get in, I think I will change my major to Bio. I feel I have many strengths and can make a difference in other ways besides Nursing. I see so many intelligent hopeful students retaking classes they made Bs in just to stand a better chance, but I'm done trying to bring my GPA up. There's more to me than a number! No, I'm not bitter!! :roll GOOD LUCK YALL!!
  9. hey, I'm going to try to bump this in hopes of getting more information on this school from alumns!!! I'm so confused about this school.. I hear more mediocre reviews than good.. If anyone has any info, please let me know!

Thank you everyone so much- I really wasn't expecting to get any responses. My head is swimming in end-of-semester assignments but I'm trying to put aside some time to really research this- thanks a ton!

This might be going out on a limb, but could anyone tell me anything about BS degrees in Radiology? I have looked into it and they seem to be very scarce. I am applying to BS Nursing programs at the end of this semester but I've suddenly found myself very interested in Radiology. Hoping maybe someone here maybe has experience in Radiology and switched over to nursing? Or maybe someone knows of a BSRadiology Science program in or around San Antonio, TX. I haven't totally changed my mind, I am still applying to UTSA's BS program, but I would like to keep my options open and have a back up plan. I realize there are tons of Rad Tech programs, but I would rather go ahead and get my BS now. Seems I can find Rad Tech programs and PhD programs but nothing in the middle! Thanks a ton!
  12. Hello! I am the Original Poster and since I still receive updates via email I thought I would follow up on my personal story- I reported the family to CPS simply for the unsanitary state of the house. I stopped working for them because I came to the house at the time the mother and I had agreed upon but no one answered the door- I heard the child inside playing with his trains, rang the bell and knocked for 20 minutes then I left. The mother called me later to tell me she also had just been diagnosed with something that I had never heard of, but that's the reason she was sleeping and couldn't be woken up when i came by at 2 pm. Ultimately, I think the mother has many of her own issues, and her son, unfortunately, just won't get the treatment he needs and deserves because of her. I only nannied with them for about a week and a half but when a counselor came for a session, the mother asked me to sit in on it so it was the PDD life coach, the father, mother and I- talk about Awkward, I barely knew this family and didn't have any plans to stay with them long-term. Anyway, About every three minutes the mother would interrupt the counselor, started being argumentative with her and finally I walked out of the room when she started cursing at the counselor and crying. I haven't had any contact with them since August. The most immediate concern I had was the unsanitary state of the house/kitchen/fridge, it was attrocious and I wouldn't feed a child out of it. The CPS contacted me a few weeks later and said that after a follow up with the family, it was decided their help wasn't needed, so that's good. I assume after the first trip the parents finally took care of the mess. Thank you everyone for sharing your story.. I can't believe I hadn't heard of PDD before this, but as I listen to your posts there seems to be a lot of confusion and misdiagnoses, so hopefully with time there will be more understanding of the disorder and the precious little ones it effects.
  13. Hello! Unrestrained children is one of my biggest pet peeves!! My dad was a police officer, my brothers a Fire Chief, and my niece is seven and is STILL in a car seat. I get eye rolls and laughs, but I don't care. Technically she can sit it in until she's 80 pounds, and as long as she's comfortable in it, that's fine with me. Everybody else she rides with lets her sit in the normal car seat, even in the front seat!! :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire :angryfire and her little knees do not make it to the edge of the seat. It looks ridiculous to have her in a seat belt made for ADULTS 80+ lbs and much taller than she is. She's in a booster with a back now, we went shopping for a backless one, but she doesn't like it as much because she is lower, and I don't like them because she sleeps a lot in the car and without the back she looks like a little fish flopping around. THERE IS INFORMATION OUT THERE. Talk to EMS and find certified car seat installers and talk to them and ask them for resources. Hopefully your report will stay with everyone who reads it- car seats save lives, and some of the laws regarding them (for example, in some states, children can sit without seats at 2 years!!) are just ridiculous. How long do you have to work on this project? Enough time to take a sar seat installation certification class?? Good luck!
