I found med/surg to be very boring

Nothings wrong with you. You just probly need a more fast passed job. Try the ER, or a larger more high volume hospital.

Personally, I'm thankful when I'm bored. It means all my patients are doing fine nobody's dying on me. It can also mean I'm keeping up with the pace and keeping caught up on my work. Maybe you just haven't had enough of those shifts from hell to appreciate the boredom. Or, maybe, Med/Surge/Oncology isn't for you. You might consider sticking with it for a year though, to build your basic skill level.

You have only been at it 6 months and you are lucky. Give it more time and you will have a few shifts from hell and you wont be saying M/S is boring.

I'll let you in on a secret: I was bored to tears as a med-surg nurse. I felt like a glorified pill pusher and did not feel challeneged at all. It just wasn't for me.

I had days that my shift feel like hell b/c I have to take 9 patients plus one very sick patient that is on the verge of dying. With that said, I still feel the nurisng routine is very boring.

Stick it out a year and then look around. But do try to stay a year...you dont want to appear to be a job hopper.

To tell the truth, Most of my jobs have been boring, because they become routine. The worst is being crazy busy and bored.

I love the job I have now, but am bored alot of the time. But great coworkers, a topnotch organizations and great patients make up for it. At this time in my life, Im not looking for action

I could not do generalized med/surg. I work ortho/neuro/detox/medical. We get enough different cases to make each patient distinct....maybe a more speicalized floor will help...

I've been in Med/Surg one year. Appreciate the experience. I'm keeping it as a PRN, but now ready to move on. I'm involved in home health and I'm now leaning toward it and hospice. I think I just like to do different things. Agency is probably the best for me to beat the boredom. My :twocents: !

I work on a med/surg/oncology floor for the past 6 months and I found the work to be very boring and routine since my orientation was over. I still consider myself a new nurse and I should feel challenge but I don't. What is wrong with me?

Bored? Well, I definitely don't have your situation; if I find myself bored, I'm rather thankful for the change!

That said, if you aren't happy, there isn't something "wrong" with you, it just isn't a good fit. Not everyone could be or should be a med-surg nurse. Same with every area of nursing. Not everything is a good fit. Look elsewhere.
