I'm still a smoker. I don't want to be a smoker when I start the ASN-RN program at my college. So, my quit goal is about 2 months before the program starts in Aug. Good for you! Quitting is so hard! I've done it multiple times only to go back to it. I want to quit and have it be the last time! Last thing I need is to be craving a stupid cigarette during class or clinicals...the urge is ridiculous. I'm tired of smelling like an ashtray, I'm tired of my lung function being at 48% (I'm asthmatic -i know I know, I'm an idiot for smoking- I started at 17y/o when I thought I was invincible and thought I knew everything lol) so I'm doing this for my health and my family (I have a 5yr old son that looks up to me). Kudos to the OP for quitting!!! woo hoo!!!!
Well done for quitting! Especially while studying. I quit smoking 3 years this July and was in the middle of a nursing course plus doing night shifts...it was diabolical! Sometimes the cravings were so strong I felt like my head was going to explode! But I just kept reminding myself it was the cravings going mad, not me!
Good for you! I quit smoking about 4 years ago after smoking for almost 10 years. It was hard and sometimes I still get a little twinge, but never again. I took a puff of my friends a few months ago and vomited. Nope, I'm good.Congrats on the big change!
I bummed a smoke at a party a few months after quitting and it was the most vile thing I had ever tasted! I threw it in the bonfire and felt happy it confirmed I was well and truly over smoking!
I stopped smoking over 12 years ago, have never had another cigarette since. I was a really heavy smoker who wanted to quit but thought it would be torture. Was recommended a book, Allen Carr's Easyway to stop smoking. I read it through on a Saturday, read it again on the Sunday and stopped smoking on the Monday. No nicotine replacement, no nothing. I highly recommend reading it. It's based on CBT.
I always told myself I would go back to college, and I would quit smoking, "one day, when I'm older"...well it took a bit longer than I expected but I finally did both! Returned to school in January and quit smoking last month. I turned 50 last week, so yeah, quite a bit longer than originally plannedI smoked for almost 38 years, holy crap thats a long time. It is never too late to do something you want to accomplish.
So that is my YAY moment of the day
Good for you!
Please keep in mind that you are really vulnerable for relapse in the first months and year.
I would recommend a quit smoking support site on line if you don't already have one. You can connect with folks going through the same challenges and get support and companionship from people who are there or been there.
It was really a good move for me.
I will have 6 years come September.
Keep puff free!
