I always told myself I would go back to college, and I would quit smoking, "one day, when I'm older"...well it took a bit longer than I expected but I finally did both! Returned to school in January and quit smoking last month. I turned 50 last week, so yeah, quite a bit longer than originally planned
I smoked for almost 38 years, holy crap thats a long time. It is never too late to do something you want to accomplish.
So that is my YAY moment of the day
Thanks everyone! I love reading about other peoples success with this, it is hard.
I'm using the patch, just didn't want to do the 'cold turkey' thing. Although I have tried to quit before, I never really 'wanted' to quit, I was doing it for someone else. This time is for me.
I want to live more than I want to smoke.
I want to be a nurse more than I want to smoke.
I want to be free from chemical shackles more than I want to smoke.
We can do this together!
Way to go Harley! Tomorrow will be one week smoke free for me!
I quit once before for 10 months but I didn't prepare myself for coping in crisis, so I lit up.
Both that time and this I used Chantix and an online support group. It really helps to have somewhere to turn at 2am.
Feel free to PM me! You can never have enough people in your corner for both nursing school stress and quitting.
soooo, I'm back to this thread because I quit smoking 2 days ago. I kept thinking of all of you that stated that you had quit smoking...I was encouraged... my lungs were hurting, my energy was non-existent, and I was just overall unhealthy. Just wanted to come back and congratulate those who quit... this is tough. It's only been 2 days but this kind of thing takes one day at a time. This isn't the 1st time I've attempted to quit...but I'm hoping it's the last time I have to.
I love having company, good job Aeris99 and AJayG3310!!We can do this together, it will make us better nurses too. We can be honest advocates for our patients, leading by example, and we won't stink like old smoke
Hugs~
So true! One of the things I disliked about smoking was the way it smelled during and after
I hated how tired I was all.the.time. It's really tough but I want to be smoke free so bad. We can do this!!!! Thanks for the support HarlyGrandma!

Leonardsmom, I quit cold turkey but what helped me through was an app called iQuit. You put in how many smokes (on average) you smoked a day, how much a day it cost you (on average) and the date and time you quit. It then keeps track of how long you've quit and how much you've saved!
