I finally quit smoking!

I always told myself I would go back to college, and I would quit smoking, "one day, when I'm older"...well it took a bit longer than I expected but I finally did both! Returned to school in January and quit smoking last month. I turned 50 last week, so yeah, quite a bit longer than originally planned :wacky:

I smoked for almost 38 years, holy crap thats a long time. It is never too late to do something you want to accomplish.

So that is my YAY moment of the day

Congratulations!!! ;)

This is my next big hurdle. It's a huge one especially since so many hospitals are NOT hiring smokers around me.

I'm still not smoking!! In May it will be one year, and I haven't even had one drag off of even one cig! I know I cannot ever smoke again, period. I've finished all my pre-reqs (with a 4.0) and I'm taking my TEAS next Friday. My application for Nursing School is submitted (just need to add my TEAS score) and the deadline is April 1st.

Hopefully I'll be starting the RN program in August ;)

Quitting smoking has really given my a boost of confidence

Congrats! I quit last month! I Graduated in December. my dream job (which I interviewed for last week. ... fingers crossed) tests for nicotine in urine upon hire. I needed to quit anyway, but this job opportunity was a great motivator! It's tough, but everyday gets easier.

SO happy for you. :).

Thank you, I *do* feel better inside and out, since I quit.

Most hospitals around here are also testing for nicotine pre-hire, seems to be the new normal.

I love the freedom of no longer 'needing' to smoke, or separate myself from others, then stink like an ashtray

We can accomplish so much positive change from within ourselves, and then help our communities and patients next :cat:

I'm not a smoker, but I am a family member of someone who has had lots of difficulty in doing so. Just wanted to extend a congratulations and sounds like you're kicking butt this year! [emoji322][emoji119]

Excellent! Keep it up! The best moment in my quit came around year 5 when I realized that when I looked, I saw how far away my time that I smoked was. I remember more of not smoking than I do of smoking

I discontinued smoking couple of month ago. Because smoking kills. It will be stupid of me to take care of pts that lay in bed due to smoking, then light up. I watched "cigarette smoking kills" videos when I wake up and before I sleep. It helped convince my unconscious mind.
