My professor was going over different methods of abortion. As she got more graphic, I just started to cry. I had to leave. I'm a dork.
You are definatly NOT a dork! Aborted babies are BABIES, and it is never wrong to feel sympathy for the death of any person!!! I hate the thought of ANYONE being killed for any reason!
I also have a soft spot for animals, expecially when they are killed just for testing, research, or because of people who get pets, and then dump them in the shelter when they realize that they actually require work! :angryfire
Have a Great Day!

I don't really understand why you started crying when your instructor was talking about abortion. I actually feel more like crying when I think about all the poor babies and children who are born into a very hopeless situation every single day. Children of parents with no money to support them, have them go to school, children conceived through rape of the mother, children who will always feel unwanted, because that's what they are, children who are born with horrible birth defects that will make their lives miserable, etc.
Of course there are other options and those should be considered, but sometimes it is really the best choice, at least that's what I think about it.
*Edit* Also, we are not talking of a baby until it's actually outside the womb. Until the 8th week of pregnancy we are talking about an embryo, a multicellular diploid eukaryote. It's only after the 8th week that human features start to develop and we start talking about a fetus. I don't want to sound heartless, I'm just stating some facts.

Ok, so you think that we should just line those unwanted children up and kill them because it's "the best choice" for them?
I'm not talking about killing the children. I'm talking about terminating an early pregnancy when we can't observe any human features yet. I honestly believe there is a difference between killing a human being that's breathing on his own, and terminating an early pregnancy.
I also believe it is completely up to the mother, since she is carrying the embryo. I have seen so many mothers addicted to alcohol, drugs, etc. And it really breaks my heart to see what they are doing. I also wonder why she would have gotten pregnant in the first place...
I really do not want to get into a fight about this, but after all this is a discussion board and I don't think there is anything wrong with me giving my opinion on the subject. This an ethical discussion, so I'm pretty sure we'll never get a final answer. We can agree disagree.

The OP apparently doesn't share your opinion. She is entitled to her feelings, just as you are.

There are many reasons for early termination, and I agree with you, some situations call for it and it doesn't always leave permanent turmoil or regret in the person that made that choice.
That being said, I understand the way the OP feels, and I appreciate her heart and feelings on the matter. It's a very sensitive subject.
i was on duty at the e.r. once when we received a 2 year old female child with hematomas and cigarrette burns on her legs, back and forearms. having two kids myself, my heart really went for that child. she was brought in by her grandmother. having learned from thoroughly interviewing her grandmother that the lesions were inflicted by the victim's own father, my first impulse was to rush out of the hospital and go directly to their house and do the same thing to her father. what wrong thing did the child do no matter how grave to deserve such a thing? i was one of the happiest persons when the police arrested her father for child abuse!!!
compassion in the workplace is, in my opininon part of a nurse's job. isn't it what caring is all about? and isn't CARING FOR PATIENTS what nursing is all about? so please don't put yourself down by calling yourself a dork.
While I definitely understand where the OP is coming from, I am definitely in favor of abortion.
There aren't enough people adopting to take care of all children that are born and not wanted. Not only that, but do we really want to have children born if they aren't wanted? Also, this may sound cruel, but the Earth already has enough people on it. Adding MORE people only hurts all of us because the Earth is stretched beyond its carrying capacity as it is.
I think regulating how many children everyone can have should happen in every country.

No, you aren't a dork. I'd have been out in the hallway crying with you...
