I can't do this anymore . . .

I mean, seriously, are there any TV shows out there that get the medical stuff right? I can't watch any show that features any medical scenarios. It always ends up in a shouting match between me and whatever incompetent is acting in the role of the nurse/paramedic/physician :banghead:.

I am able, with a significant degree of self-control, to contain myself when I watch such shows with friends, but they take one look at my face and know that whatever is on the screen is baloney :sarcastic:. It's gotten to the point that I'll switch the TV off if there's nothing but medical dramas on the programming. And then I'll take a peek to see if, by some miracle, the attending physicians on "Grey's Anatomy" have managed to pull their heads out of their rectums . And then the shouting resumes . The only shows that even slightly mimic reality, IMHO, are "ER" and "The Night Shift" - but even these brave attempts at reality have me writhing in agony at times :sniff:.

*sigh* I guess I'll just watch some more ZDoggMD.

This is stupid, but it bugs me anyway. The IV pumps by alaris are always flashing yellow or red on the tv. Couldn't someone rig the darn thing to be green for pity's sake.

On last week's two-hour Gray's Anatomy episode, they replayed the flashback of McDreamy's demise AGAIN, which means I had to watch the same four IV pumps AGAIN running the same two drugs on each pump, with the exact same rates and the exact same volumes on every single pump.

It takes some major skill to start four drips running at the exact same time so they have all run the exact same volumes (477mL) several hours later.

The first three seasons of Call the Midwife were excellent. I enjoyed watching Sr Evangeline teach the novice nurse midwives. I loved her no nonsense approach. This season has so many new characters multiple plotlines and settings that it is hard to follow. It seems like a different show.

It is, Jennifer wordswoth only worked in the community for a while before going to work in the new area of palliative care before leaving nursing to teach music. Therefore the writers no longer have the books to base the plots off.

really? And I think the Night Shift is one of the worst in terms of reality. I'll agree with ER they were more realistic than the ones now.

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't catch that! Too funny. I really do love the medical improbabilities on these shows. I also wonder sometimes if cops and lawyers yell at their TV's during legal dramas. For instance I love Castle, but it drives me nuts how Beckett is always chasing bad guys in 4" heels. And wouldn't it be nice for real cops to have all the high tech equipment the TV show ones have?

ER is one of my all time favorite shows, and you are right, as far as the medical stuff they got it more right than most. There were at least some nurses that [shocker] actually did some nursing. They also did a lot of way beyond their scope stuff, but it was good for the drama. The only real pet peeve I have about ER is like every other medical show: the ER doc that starts working on a trauma pt is the same doc that performs the very specialized surgery the pt always seems to need. How many ER MD's do you think cross trained in neuro or cardiothoracic surgery? Apparently a lot!

And soooooo many docs on tv take blood pressures, start IVs, give injections, do blood draws, do pre-op prep, deliver meal trays..... have these tv writers ever even BEEN in a hospital???? :sarcastic:

I hated the fact that there were soooooo many physicians and midlevels compared to nurses on "The Night Shift," but at least they were making a greater percentage of correct statements than on "Miami Medical"

I thought my hospital was odd since we have nurses doing that. I guess we aren't :)

We have lots of local medical reality dramas.

The'll make a comment like "James having been eletrocuted by a downed power line is at iminent risk of dying if he does not get medical attention straight away"

I'm like "no s**t sherlock"

My friends keep reminding me these shows are aimed at the non medical person. :)
