Human Growth and Development Course

Published

I'm starting this course next week. Anyone else taking it or anything that sounds a bit like it? I really am not sure at all what to expect but I know I'm about to find out in a big, fat hurry!!

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

I go back to my seat, feeling a little better about my mark than when I first saw it but SHOCKED that the marks were generally so low.

Wow, it's the opposite in my class. Our class average is around 91%. If you go to class every time than the test is doable.

Katie

I know .. well what it shows me is that she is not doing a great job of teaching and/or connecting with us, the students. It's sad because it could be a really great course. Maybe it's going to get better!! One can always hope!

Hey guys!

Karen, sorry about the test. I mean, great that you did as well as you did, but annoying that the range of grades was pretty low. Hopefully your instructor will realize that she needs to be more specific in her questions or whatever. Did she state what the class average was? I hope things improve!

Not much new here. We got our scaled grades for our first test yesterday and I ended up w/ a 99, so that's good. Need to get working on my journal entries. I have two that need to be written before next week. She doesn't grade these particularly hard, though. Yesterday she said as long as you turn something in she'll give at least a B+ for them. Hmm... I know we're getting our assignment for our research paper next week, too. And the next test is scheduled for 11/1. Busy!

Getting more annoyed by the day in this course .. with the teacher, that is. Her marks were all screwed up so they were all different. My guess is that the class average was too low so she muddled around until she was satisfied. My mark stayed the same .. two others had higher than me now (3 marks LOL) .. I have NO idea how as she said that she found ONE question that could have more than one answer and that shouldn't vault some people 15 marks. Then again, the computer system might really have been screwed up .. obviously. Oh well, I'm still happy with my little ol' A- and just can't wait to get out of the class now. It's not THAT bad when we're there but .. oi yoi yoi ... it turned out that she had all sorts of trick questions which she admitted had more than one right answer but .. I do NOT get it.

Anyway, very frustrating! :o

I haven't taken sociology, but I think growth & development is probably about the same difficulty as intro psych. In fact we talk about a lot of the same people (Freud, Erikson, Piaget, etc.). And I find it to be a bit more interesting than intro. Good luck!

Are other students finding their devp't class as easy as intro? I think maybe b/c I opted for the 200 level, but my human devp't class is really hard...anyone else in this boat? I was a psych major in college, so its not like I haven't seen this stuff but our prof's tests are really hard. The avg in our class overall is a 67, she doesn't curve for any reason...I am doing really well (94), but its VERY labor intensive! The good thing is that our tests are only 40% of the final grade, we have various essays and research papers too. Anyway, best of luck to everyone here! Thanks for listening :)

Our class sounds a little different as the hardest thing is dealing with the disorganization of the professor. She has such a different approach to the world and I think it's just not geling with the class. I know that's a part of the process, of course (having all kinds of unique people). I minored in psych my first degree but it was really too long ago .. I have likely internalized some of it but it doesn't feel like it lol. I'm glad to hear that your tests will be only 40%. Ours are worth 70% but I hope to get through it anyway LOL. The average for our midterm was 72%, I think she said yesterday. I'm at an A- so far so I'm not too worried (but a little).

Best of luck!! Hope it gets better! Do you have a full course load?

I'm not sure what the rest of my class thinks, so I may be in the minority. It's 200-level course, as well. However, our instructor said that in her four years of teaching she's rarely given anyone a cumulative grade of less than a B- so that gives you a pretty good indication that she's not particularly tough.

I think a lot depends on your instructor and probably where you're taking the class. If I had taken a similar course when I was in college I'm sure I would have had a very different perception as that was a very tough school. I actually wish that my class was more challenging.

I am currently taking this course and find it pretty easy. It's not even half as intense as A&P I or II. However, there are people in my class that are barely passing and some are failing it. Maybe it's because they're right out of high school or they have poor study habits. I believe if you pay attention, take good notes, and study them before the test you can pass.

Kaseyrn2b,

Where are you taking your online class? I think I want to avoid your professor. I am thinking of taking Developmental Psyc online at Edukan. I want to take Dev Psyc online and take A & P I at the Community College locally. I am still trying to decide because I have a lot on my plate. Has anyone taken Dev Psyc from Edukan?

How did taking the Hobet go? Didn't you take it this summer? Hope everything else is going well.

Hi :)

Both my (Telecourse via local CC) Intro to Psych class and Human Growth and Dev class are really easy, but also they overlap a ton. (The books and telecourse guides are from the same publisher.) So I'm finding that actually cuts down on studying time, really glad I took them together. They are also both 200 level courses at the CC. Half the questions on the tests (same instructor also) are what I term "giveaways" as in you had to be dead the past 20 years to not answer them correctly. lol Half are more involved plus 2 essays per test. So far I have a 246/250 in both classes. I do make sure I cover the material thoroughly however, so maybe the tests seem easier 'cause of that. If any of ya'll wanna come down here and take them from this prof. lemme know. :rotfl:

Great,I am in San Antonio and plan to take Human Growth maybe this next summer.....I am currently taking A&P at SAC and have to take A&P 2 in the spring. I would love to have more info on your college and the class. I love to read and it wouldn't be much of a problem for me not to be in an actual class. It takes discipline but I am willing to do the work required and probably would do just as well as you. Please keep in touch :) Are you a cat lover? I have three ( I probably ask you this question, please forgive me I a turning senile)

Maybe they are not commited to their goal.... unfortunateIy see too much of this all the time. In order to succeed you need to be serious and dedicated. I am in A&P1 and it takes hard work. Some of the "easier" classes still took work and dedication. I was never able to take any college work lightly. Nothing so far came easy.

I am glad that you are doing well, and have, what seems like a little break in intensity. Keep up the good work!
