Human Growth and Development Course

Published

I'm starting this course next week. Anyone else taking it or anything that sounds a bit like it? I really am not sure at all what to expect but I know I'm about to find out in a big, fat hurry!!

i'm taking a growth and development class now. it reminds me a lot of the general psychology class that i took last year. basically you're studying the life span of humans from infancy to geriatrics and everything in between. there's a lot of focus on the family unit and different theories of development, ie maslow's hierarchy, and theorists like erik erikson..etc. good luck in your class!~:)

I took it awhile ago....yep learn Erikson's stages if you haven't already....I found it interesting and not hard. GOOD LUCK!

Specializes in Operating Room.

The beginning is review from Intro to Psych. Then, it will break down the stages of birth, life, aging and death.

I thought it was a very imformative course.

Sounds like it hopefully won't be bad then! I did minor in psych in my first degree so I'm sure it will all come back and not seem that out of the ordinary! Thanks for the insight!

I am taking Human Growth & Development through CCCOnline - just started the 29th. I am loving it! My class is very fast-paced (we've already covered 3 chapters and had tons of discussions), but considering that I am very interested in psychology, it's a lot of fun. With your background, you should do fine. We've learned a little bit about the history of psych, then a lot about different founders (as stated above) and ch. 3 so far is about creating new life. Very interesting. Enjoy!!!

Specializes in Ante-Intra-Postpartum, Post Gyne.

I took a similar class, it was called, Life Span Developlent: Human Growth and Development. It was a fairly easy class. I got an A in it but I like writting big long research papers! :chuckle You learn a lot of interesting things. I loved the part on infancy because it is what I am most interested in. However, I also enjoyed the section on teens, it was like "Oh, that explains why I hated being a teenager!" You'll see, its not bad at all. Psyh is a fun and interesting class, no matter which one you take, at least I think so.

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

I'm taking Huma Lifespan and development (ADN) I am unsure if it is the same thing. The book starts from birth til death?

Sounds pretty similar - I'll bet it's along the same lines. :)

It sounds like it is the same thing. In fact, our textbook is called, "Health Promotion Strategies Through the Lifespan".

Like everyone else said, its much like intro to psych, youll learn freud and erikson again, remember that stuff....theyll teach it to you 2 more times once youre already in nursing school...and by then youll be so happy to see it b/c they'll be the easy questions on the test! Good luck.
