I'm starting this course next week. Anyone else taking it or anything that sounds a bit like it? I really am not sure at all what to expect but I know I'm about to find out in a big, fat hurry!!
Have my 2nd class tonight... spent my lunch today writing my first journal entry. I don't think she's collecting it tonight, but I'm sure she'll be assigning another one and I don't want to get behind. As it is I ended up writing much more than I expected... guess I remembered more than I thought I did about being eight years old!
Okay, I somehow got behind in my reading already because I misunderstood the teacher. Gahhh! Oh well .. I am reading my A&P right now, which is sucking up a lot of my time but I should be able to be caught up by the end of the week.
Class today was fairly interesting. It would be neat do to the journal entries, arciedee! We don't have to do that thus far. Our prof is basically highlighting the text so far and giving lots of examples.
I have been enjoying my class so far, it's just VERY fast paced! Yikes! I am really hoping I retain some of this. I am loving it because I have an interest in psychology anyway, but whew! Our projects look like fun though - I have already done my daycare observation and will be working on that paper starting pretty soon.
Edited to say: BTW, my class is 100% online
Cool! (or was it?)We watched a video today about reproduction and birth; that was graphic. It was like a biology class.

I like the sections in our text that cross over to how this relates to our nursing .. actually that really brings it into focus for me and makes it more than just theory, kwim? Videos would help too!!
My class was cancelled last night Boo, I was looking forward to it. I think we were going to watch a video on prenatal development, too.
Kayel, I do think the journal entries will be interesting. They should give us personal connections to the material we're studying. Is your text specifically for nursing students? The sections on how the theory relates to practice sound interesting. My book is not specifically intended for a nursing audience, though they have boxes on people who use development theory in their work and I read one about a NICU nurse (which is something I think I'd like to do).
sddlnscp, the day-care observation sounds really interesting! I don't think we'll be doing anything like that. We do have one paper, but I think it will just be a research paper on a topic of interest to us. I love psych, too. If I had to do college all over again (I was a math major) I would do neuroscience (psych/bio), I just find this stuff so interesting.

I think it's so neat that your book is related directly to nursing students, mine is not - it's general for anyone needing Human Growth and Development - but it is still intriguing.
I am looking forward to the daycare observation paper - it's a lot of fun, and we get to actually apply what we have learned to what we observed. We also will have another paper which is a project about ourselves - we are supposed to psychoanalyze (I hope that is the right term ) our past and our expected future. Sounds like fun!
I'm having a little trouble concentrating on our text!!! It just seems like so much reading and maybe it's the switching gears from A&P that's killing me. Honestly, it just seems to be going all over the place. My text doesn't seem to be organized like I would organize it lol ... nor does my professor (seem to be organized like I would organize her).
Anyway, I am slugging through the chapters but I'm starting to get a little apprehensive over what will be on our first test in October and how I'm going to actually catch up on the reading that I didn't realize she had already blipped through.
Maybe I'm just in a mood about it, who knows.
I felt fairly good yesterday reading through the pages I had set for myself plus a few more and also getting back to my Nutrition course after taking a week and a half off while I got started on campus courses.
Someone remind me to keep putting one foot in front of the other!!!!!
Hello there!
I am in my 6th week of human development. Its pretty good. Online, which I may not be as crazy about. I thought I'd love it, but I think I really like being in class. It fits my schedule so much better though. I am home w/ 2 kids. Anyway, the class I am taking is 200 level...I thought it would be more interesting than the intro...silly me! The class is good, but the prof is hard, I am hanging onto an A by a thread. First test avg was 60, no curve. Anyway, I am studying daily for the next test!

I can relate. It's interesting material, but I think we're covering too much at once and it's hard to retain. I'm like you - it's also hard to switch back and forth between the A&P & Development course. Hopefully it will get easier.

Well, I'm back from class!! It was interesting, although my prof is very slow and methodical and I might have trouble staying awake. Maybe next time I'll sit by the window hee hee. There are about 50 others in class.
We have to do a case study on a child/adolescent so I'll likely pick one of my kids, although then I might have trouble being objective.
