Human Growth and Development Course

Published

I'm starting this course next week. Anyone else taking it or anything that sounds a bit like it? I really am not sure at all what to expect but I know I'm about to find out in a big, fat hurry!!

Specializes in NICU.
Add me to the list of those taking HD :) I'm taking it online, with the exception of the final & then we have to go to the campus.

We're using Human Dev. 8th edition by Papalia, Olds & Feldman. We had our 2nd test today (ch 3,4,5 & 6 conception thru infancy) & I made a 94%. I made a 72% on the first test (class avg 63%), but now he's posting study guides and following them to the tee on the test. He writes on his guides, "KNOW this" or "Don't bother studying pages 157-159". The test are all 50 questions, multiple choice, 30 minute time limit.

No case study here. We have a 4 pg. term paper due in Nov. that is to be written on any subject in the book. He said that you can turn it in early and he'll make notes & return it so you can correct your mistakes and resubmit it.

Overall I'm enjoying the class & wish they were all this easy!

We're using the same text, except 9th instead of 8th edition. My class is kind-of a struggle though. Where are you taking yours online?

Ok, I was curious. Mine are through CCConline out here in Colorado. :) I was just wondering because it doesn't seem like many people use this text. Of course, that could just be me. :D

Wish me luck, guys... first test tonight. Of course I spent last night reading for tonight's lecture and writing up a journal entry that I'm sure won't be turned in until next week. I was feeling a bit behind, though and wanted to be caught up. Need to spend some time with my book during lunch today, but I'm hopeful that the test won't be too hard. Hope everyone else's classes are going well!

Specializes in ante/postpartum, baby RN.

Good Luck. :)

Sounds like it hopefully won't be bad then! I did minor in psych in my first degree so I'm sure it will all come back and not seem that out of the ordinary! Thanks for the insight!

Karen,

you mentioned that you minored in Psych. Have you met with your advisor to see if you need to take this course? I have a BA in Psych, and although I never took this actual course, the school I was applying to was willing to accept my "Child Psychology" and "Adult Developing & Aging" classes in leiue (sp) of the "Human Growth and Devlopment" class.....You may want o see if any of your previous classes would apply to this... It could save you a little time and money!

Well, I think the first test went well... I felt pretty confident. We'll find out next week. I think we'll finally finish up the infancy section then. Seems like this stage goes on forever, though I know that there is a lot going on during the infant years, so I guess it makes sense. I'm just worried that we might never get to the adult stages at this rate! :chuckle

How's everyone else doing?

Our first test is on Thursday. It's multiple choice and we have to use scantrons.

Ugh, scantrons... had to use those for tests in my nutrition class. I always worry that I'm going to bubble in the answer on the wrong line! Good luck, I'm sure you'll do great.

hiyah :D

I'm taking this course this semester, doing it as a telecourse through my college, so I have a study guide, textbook, and some dvd's to watch, then I schedule my tests at the college whenever I'm ready to take them. I have the same textbook someone else mentioned, "The Developing Person Through the Life Span", by Kathleen S. Berger. I think the absolute best part of this course is the telecourse study guide that goes with it, because it really hits on all the key points I find I might overlook through the reading. This textbook is also well done I think.

Sounds like you guys have more interesting projects than I do though, I just have some papers I have to write on selected topics (like autism or child neglect). Quite a fascinating class though! :D To study I take all the key questions of the chapt from the study guide and write out essay type answers with all the pertinent terms defined, then do the quiz questions and note any further points I might have missed in my "essay" answer. Am getting an A in the course but I may be overstudying 'cause I find I'm putting in a lot of hours per test.

Anyone still here? How are you guys doing?

Just got 1st test back yesterday, scored a 94 before the curve, so off to a good start. We finished up infancy in lecture last night so will be on to preschool years next week, yay!
