Human Growth and Development Course

Published

I'm starting this course next week. Anyone else taking it or anything that sounds a bit like it? I really am not sure at all what to expect but I know I'm about to find out in a big, fat hurry!!

Ugh, that sound frustrating. I hear you with your thoughts about the course because I am feeling the same way. Unfortunately, the teacher is just not good. Not that this will necessarily help you but these are the type of teachers we need to talk to the faculty advisers about and/or turn in a bad evaluation for them. I don't really want to do that and am just torn in general. Hang in there!! You will be through it before you know it and we can move on to other stupid courses haha. We have just finished the school age child so we are behind you if that makes you feel any better. :chuckle

Well our course is broken up into two sections (child development 101) Pregnancy-12yrs of age and then (child development 102 - Human growth and development) 13 up to death and dying. I don't know why our school has them seperate and some have them together. But anyway, I am taking the second part right now (102). I really enjoyed the first part and tried to take the same teacher again, but she doesn't teach it. I just don't even want to go to class anymore. Our new teacher even said we coule miss 3 days and she wouldn't care. That is some great motivation for going to class. I don't think I am going to go today. We have laundry to do and I think I am going to stay home and do that. I'm sure I won't miss anything  .

I hope you class gets a little better. Is your teacher new? For some reason I think my teacher has tenure (sp?). She was describing the process to us, so it seems like she knows a lot about it. I guess this is a good lesson for life because you always have to deal with people you don't like or who dont do a good job. Oh well...only 8 more weeks to go!

Thanks. I think our teacher is fairly new to the course and teaching ........ all I can say is, "Yeesh." She said in the first lecture that we could just read the text and not come to class and we would keep up with the course fine. Well, that may very well be, but she had at least 5 questions pertaining specifically to little comments she made in class and one video so ... whatever. She is at least a nice lady but ... not my idea of a good prof. If we aren't comatose when we enter the class, we are when we leave.

Hope you got some good laundry time in!!! You are right, it is helping us deal with all kinds. Will you have her for any other courses in your time at school? My friend and I were discussing that we both had thought about that and that we would definitely check the teacher lists (not that we will necessarily have a choice on some courses perhaps) ... but ..... hmmmm oh well.

I'm glad to hear you are doing so well in A&P! That rocks!! We have had only one exam and I did get an A but there is definitely room for improvement!! I feel like I have A&P coming out my ears, though.

LOL! It drives me batty when my (beloved) Religions teacher turns the class out early as he's in the habit of doing. Now I really really like this guy, he's terrific, but when I drive 20 minutes to get to class, only to be there for a few minutes and go home, well... !!! LOL Everyone else seems delighted, I'm a darned geek I guess, I get disappointed. ;)

Having said that, back to Human Growth, well, test three kinda sucked! It seemed there were alot of questions that two answers really would have worked for. This is paraphrased but an example was "What is the PRIMARY symptom of AD/HD?" And among the four choices there was both hyperactivity AND lack of concentration. Bleh. It threw me. Could go either way, I mean, was the teacher thinking... what is the primary symptom that differentiate's AD/HD from ADD? Then I'd say hyperactivity. The way he had it phrased I went with lack of concentration. Seems like he coulda made that question a bit easier! Who knows. I think when I email him to get my test grade I'll whine a little bit. LOL

Well, for one thing, you paid to take the courses and they should give you what you paid for imho! I must say I am relieved sometimes to get out early but if it's a regular habit and the prof isn't putting 100% in, it's wrong!

I hate questions worded like that!! I hope you got it right. You could likely argue the question, especially if you can find an appropriate quote from your text, for example. GL!!

I know what you mean! A&P is taking over my life :uhoh3: . I do like the class though. One reason that I like it is because I know I will need the information in the future. That makes it easier to study. That class takes up probably 85% of my studying time.

Hopefully I won't have to have the same teacher (from HG&D) again. Most of the classes I have left to take are science classes. I think most of the people in the class are just happy to get easy As. I might be a weirdo :roll , but I don't really like to get easy As. I rather work a little for them. It makes me feel like I really earned it. Good luck in your classes!

I know what you mean about being let out early all the time. I want to get what I paid for. I must be a geek also :chuckle . It takes me about an hour to get to school, so it makes me really mad to waste all that time for nothing. About the AD/HD question, that sounds kind of tricky. I would say hyperactivity, but then it could also be lack of concentration. It might be lack of concentration since that is a problem that kids with ADHD have, but could the hyperactivity be responsible for the lack of concentration. :uhoh3: I think I am confusing myself :rotfl: . It has been a while since we did ADD and ADHD.

prinsessa, I totally agree... I'm not a big fan of "easy A" classes, either. I mean, sure it's great to have on the transcript, but I paid good money for the tuition, I want to come out with more than just a grade. I'm afraid most of the other people in my classes don't feel the same way, however.

I had my 2nd test on Tuesday. I think it went well. I get a bit frustrated with some of the nitpicky questions, however. I have no problem explaining things in essays, etc., but some of the multiple choice questions have answers I feel are ambiguous or just asking stuff that I consider more trivia than the meat of the subject.

Ah, well, halfway through...

LOL! This is me, during the test, exactly!

Thanks! Yes, it sounds the same here! I also am glad when my profs aren't cushy and it's like you've accomplished something when you get a grade. On the other hand, it's nice when they actually make sense (unlike my HGD teacher). I love my A&P guy, though!! GL on your courses!

Yeah - I have to agree with the consensus here, I am not into the "easy A" stuff either - I am paying for it, I want to learn something!!! :)

I'm glad that other people feel like that. I'm paying for my classes too and I want to get something out of them. Some of my classmates are just so happy to get an easy A that they don't care if they even learn anything from the course. And most of them are so lazy and don't want to do any work. I would complain because they will give you your money back if you can prove you didn't get anything out of the class, but I need this class and just want to get it over with. Especially since the semester is already more them half over. I'm sure DH is sick of hearing about my complaints though :uhoh21:

LOL! You are definitely not alone! I think that the class being too easy actually makes it harder because (at least for me) it makes me so prone to procrastinate. I know I can blow it off until the last minute and I do, which isn't good. My grade in it is great, but I still feel like I am wasting my time when I could be doing something else. Oh well - at least it is one more pre-req down, I guess. ;)
