Hrsa 08-09 Nursing Scholarship

Published

I thought I would start a thread for those who have applied, do that we can keep each other posted on what is going on with the process. Also here to promote tons of positivity for everyone.

i got the official letter today as well. after receiving the email yesterday. :yeah:

Specializes in My son...for now..
I was just wondering if anyone knew how much we were going to receive for the other reasonable costs (ORC) I can't find it anywhere form anyone in the past who has received.

It should be around $1795.....remember though...this is to last the whole year to buy books....and you will have to wait until the end of October next year as well....so if you spend it all before your Spring 09 semester and your Fall 09 semester you will need to come up with those funds yourself....congrats to all

From what the scholarship folks told me today, we will get two ORC payments. One for each semester. The first payment coming in Oct, along with the pro-rated back payment of stipend monies. The ORC is different for everyone and it is based on all that fee information you provided on the initial paperwork. So if you go to a really expensive school, your ORC will be higher. Nothing except our stipend is flat..

Specializes in Respiratory Step Down, telemetry, hospice.

yeah...probably true about the amount, but trust me...you only get it once a year...I know...cause I am still waiting on it so I can pay my friend back for my books this semester

congratulations!! It seems that everyone who received the in state/out state tuition was selected for the scholarship. I did not get any email from them, so I guess pretty much i'm out in the running. I got an email today from M. Carrera, and she said that she have all the "list" of everyone who got selected. I wasn't in that list; however, she said i'm chosen as one of the alternates.

The thing is: if it comes, then i'll be thankful for sure!. In my case, I think it's time for me to move on, and concentrate on my classes.

Good luck to everyone!! Again, congratulations to all the awardees..:yeah:

kbianca, its great you're an alternate. Hopefully you'll get it.

Congrats to the other awardees of the nursing school lottery.

Jennifer

is it true that the only people that got a scholarship got the email about the in state/out of state tuition or the uploading of your program link on your account?

I just found out today that I got the scholarship. I did get the email about in/out of state tuition and the link asking about program information

Does anyone remember them asking for other reasonable costs in the initial app? I remember them wanting tuition amounts only... It was awhile ago though, so I'm not sure.

Congrats to everyone that has gotten the award so far, what a great opportunity! I however, am still waiting and feel like I probably didn't get it. I did not receive the in/out state tuition email or anything. So......to my fellow none winners.....where are people going from here? Any ideas about alternate programs or services?? My program is really expensive and I really need to find something to help us out.

Nevermind about the previous question, got an email explaining it all. As far as those who didn't recieve it, I did a bit of research in case I didn't, and they have another loan repayment program for those who are nurses already with loans. Look into your states DHS website. For Oregon, they repay 25% of federal loans for each year of service. This is great for those who are eligible- I was not able to get any federal loans because of a prior bachelors. Good luck! Also keep in mind that many hospitals will have some kind of sign on bonus or repayment program as well...
