07-08 HRSA Nursing Scholarship Notification

Published

Has anyone received notification about whether or not they got an 07-08 HRSA Nursing Scholarship yet? (I know it says late-september)

If you are on the first funding tier has your file been reviewed? Mine says no review has been done on it yet and I turned everything in on time. I have already called the folks at HRSA and they just said wait...

Congratulations to all!!!! I still have a small amount of hope that it will come in the mail on Monday. I only have 1.5 semesters left in an Accelerated BSN private school program in NY...but every little bit helps. Good luck to the rest of you.

Ok I have been praying non stop for this scholarship. It is so needed I am a 23 year old mother of three and I am trying to keep my head above water. I want to congratulate those who have already received their award letters. CONGRATS! I hope Monday will be my day. It's good to read about other individuals in similar situations with mail anxiety. I'm happy to have found this forum. Thanks Guys

So I have had this scholarship for almost a year now, and I am very happy that I have the help. I just wanted to offer some advice to those who have newly recieved it. Do not depend on thier pay dates. I have trouble making ends meet on the scholarship stipend alone with childcare costs etc, so by the end of the month I really need the next payment, and it is usually on time but it seems like when you need it the most it is late - this month for example. The pay date was 9/28, and the stipend should have been deposited in my checking account at midnight - well I am still waiting. This also happened about 5 months ago, and it was in the next day. I just wanted to warn, that it can sometimes be late. Also, from the time your school sends them an invoice to pay for tuition it takes at least 6 weeks for them to process the request (I have racked up interest charges from my school because of this). But, the program all in all has been a blessing. Congratulations to those who got it.

Apoole---Thanks for the heads up---much appreciated---the offset on dates---are they really off when they are off---or just by a couple of days? Also, will they have us fill out the tax information---I guess these are all questions I can call them on. Anyway---thanks for the information

Kathy

They will ask you for the tax information. They do not take out for state taxes, so plan accordingly. That first payment was a nice chunk of change. Another downside, the ORC the second year comes 10/31, so its after all books and stuff have been purchased. The only other time the stipend was "late" it was in my account the next business day. I emailed my worker and she told me it was not technically late because it can take up to 7 business days - which I did not recall reading anywhere. Hopefully my payment from friday will be in my account at midnight tonight.

How much do you receive for other reasonable cost? Thanks Nikki

Another question, I noticed that they increased the stipend amount from last year. Did you also get that increase? How late in Oct. did you get the first check? How does state assistance (food stamps) figure in with that amount? I have a pt job right now and get about 500 a month from it, but I'm hoping to quit to be a mom and a nursing student rather then three things. At the same time I'd like to pay down my student loans with the extra income.

I got my first payment the 31st of October last year. The amount of the stipend was increased for me in July the 20 or so dollars that it went up. The ORC payment was if I remember correctly 1650 last year and this year I will get the 1725. It will be nice to be able to pay back my family who lent me money for books and stuff.

The way the scholarship effected my public assistance - I was no longer eligible for cash assistance or daycare assistance, I was still eligible for food stamps - at that point I decided to not use them anymore because I felt like the scholarship would be sufficient. The rules vary so much between states, that it would be best to check with your county.
