Has anyone received notification about whether or not they got an 07-08 HRSA Nursing Scholarship yet? (I know it says late-september)

If you are on the first funding tier has your file been reviewed? Mine says no review has been done on it yet and I turned everything in on time. I have already called the folks at HRSA and they just said wait...

Thanks for the info! I don't know that I didn't get the award because I haven't received a letter, but I think it seems like most of the people that received the award know by now. It's so interesting. I called HRSA today to ask a few questions about applying next year. The woman told me if I paid for or took out loans for Fall 2008 tuition and received the award I would be reimbursed! What to do...What to do. I'm sure they are just overwhelmed with the number of people willing to sign up for the 2 years. It's awesome though that so many people are getting support for nursing school. Any other information/suggestions out there.

NC,

I am sure they are messing with you about this. There is no way that they would reimburse people retroactively. This is another example of HRSA messing with our heads.

Merry Christmas,

Father Tod

Yes you do get "reimbursed" but basically your school bills them for a list of approved fees and then they submit the payment. Then the school will reverse your loans, if you have enough on your account to cover any other expenses. Example: if you charged books that payment would come separately in ur living stipend so you would need to write a check to the school rather then have student loans. Basically you need to work with your financial aid advisor. My program started in July 07 which is figured in as part of the fall semester. From what I have read in the paperwork I will also have those classes paid for as well as receive a living stipend for those months. Its a pretty sweet hit. : )

Has anyone received their denial letters yet? Just curious...

Nope, not yet. Still waiting for mine, haha! love those denial letters

No, I haven't gotten mine yet, HRSA said that they will bill us for postage in order to send us our denial letters. Budget cuts are preventing them from using and buying stamps to mail us our letters.

According to tips from my HRSA insider, the denial letter will read something like the following:

Dear Scholarship Applicant:

Youz didn't get a scholarship this here year, so--HA!

:balloons:

November 1st. I guess no letter is the same as get a decline.:nono:

I finally got my rejection letter yesterday. It's official I did not get the scholarship. This was my 2nd yr to apply and I really don't think I will apply again next year. That would be a lot less assistance for the same work commitment.

I got my rejection letter too. It was dated for Oct. 31.

They said they had 550 people that were considered...

I honestly don't know if it's worth it to go through the whole process again next year since I drove all the nice people at student accounts crazy trying it get that paperwork in by the 24 hour deadline..

Hello! So I just got some info I wasn't expecting. For anyone who is on a limited income this might be helpful. The scholarship does not count as income, its considered a type of loan/financial aid because if we do not fulfill the contract we have to pay it back. Thus its not figured into your food stamps. I was expecting to get less, and have found out i qualify for more!

Not to doubt you mother_of_2....but we have to file income tax on the scholarship (at least part of it is coming on a W-2) while the other is showing up in a 1099-MISC. That would be considered income....I just don't see how they can require you to claim it as income to the Fed Govt but DHS is overlooking it as income from the tax return? I don't qualify for DHS assistance anyway because I work while going to school so my son can still be involved in sports and such while I am in school (teenagers tend to be very social creatures). Well---I just wanted to point that out so it does not come back to bite you in the future, because they are both government programs and if anything is wrong, they will find out about it and you will be required to pay it back.

I put it in as income and my caseworker called to tell me it wasn't. If we do not fulfill the terms of the contract then we are required to pay it back, thus its not considered income. I did tell her that I was required to pay taxes on it, she again stated I would need to pay it back if I did not complete my service obligation or if I dropped out of nursing school. I have two little ones 24/7 and my program is 8-5 most days, working isn't a possibility anymore. But, if i hadn't gotten the scholarship I'm sure I would have.

Gotta love the loop holes!

For those of you who received the scholarship last year are you allowed to change schools if you receive the scholarship. The school I put on the application I am not attending its a different school will I be allowed to change schools????
