Has anyone received notification about whether or not they got an 07-08 HRSA Nursing Scholarship yet? (I know it says late-september)
If you are on the first funding tier has your file been reviewed? Mine says no review has been done on it yet and I turned everything in on time. I have already called the folks at HRSA and they just said wait...

Great, congrats! So, could you tell us if you have 1 or 2 years left in school? We're very excited for you!

Hey guys,
Sorry that the NHSC process was so frustrating.
I left HRSA last year and if its any consolation I bet staff at the Bureau of Health Professions (BHPr)((the bureau that runs the NHSC)), was probably just as much in the dark as you were (funding gets yanked at the last minute, staff get relocated at the drop of a hat).
Funding for BHPr programs has been drastically (wait, that's DRASTICALLY) cut in the last five years. BHPr suffered some of its worst cutbacks in 2006. Sounds like budgets (and staff) have been cut even further this year.
So I swear that no one did this to you on purpose.
If anyone is applying for the NHSC Nursing Scholarship next year my best advice is to A) Go for it, B) But don't rely on it for your financial aid, AND.....
C) Write your Rep in the U.S. House of Representatives. ASAP. Be as eloquent as possible. Get your SNA together and write a whole passel of letters together!!!!!!!!
Currently the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) has an e-mail campaign going on to support H.R. 2915. The bill is designed to renew and expand NHSC scholarship funding for Medical Students ONLY.
Who is Advocating funding increases/stability for Nursing students??
(Ummmm, Can you guess how many Nursing Student Associations even have a Federal or State legislation webpage????)
Guess its up to YOU.
Hmm, that's a tricky question. I was a spring admit, so I'll be a senior in the spring. I'll graduate next December. With my letter, they sent the final copy of the contract I signed initially. I signed one for this year and next; however, they only sent the contract I signed for NEXT school year. I called to see if maybe they forgot to include it, which wouldn't be a stretch, or if they decided to just fund me for the 2008-2009 school year. If that's the case, it's not worth it for one term of assistance. I hope it's for both years. I'm waiting for a call back. I'll let you know.
