I havent seen a thread yet on this year's nurse corps application cycle & my anxiety has made me start one. I'm finishing up my application and should be done with it by today. I know its extremely competitive so honestly I dont think I'll get it but its worth a try! Who else has applied/is applying?

I really don’t know, I’m starting to think credit checks don’t really matter. My classmate who got the email today said she hasn’t gotten a credit check as yet. Meanwhile, I got my credit check on 7/17. A lot of people here got their credit check before getting their finalist emails and some got their credit check after they got the emails. So getting the credit check or not getting the credit check doesn’t guarantee you will get a email.

I got my credit check a few days after the finalist email so Im not sure what it means. If you sign up for something like Credit Karma, they notify you if your credit has been checked. It’s free! Hope that helps.
I am wondering how they award these if it's all at different times? Logistically, it makes no sense - they just dig into a pile and start awarding people as they go? In that sense, it seems like even you fit the criteria, but happen to be at the bottom of the pile, you will be out of luck because they will meet the quota early. Or is it that the folks notified now are just 'in the running' and then they will narrow it down by the end of September? I just called and they couldn't tell me anything other then they have until September 30th to notify all the recipients. I turned my application in about a week before the deadline. Just wondering what everyone thinks. And best of luck! (for me, too!)

I’m assuming since it’s similar or is grant funds that fund the scholarships, that each applicant has to meet the criteria and receives a score in each area. Many people probably score them and those that meet the highest scores or at least a certain score are notified first and then they compare and contrast the rest. That being said, the order itself would be irrelevant if all are scored at the same time and it’s just a matter of comparing them. I have no clue for certain, I just know when programs or people apply for grants that’s usually how it works.

I applied beginning of April and got my finalist email Monday. I know others who got heir finalist email earlier than I did and they applied the day before, so I suppose it varies. Good luck ❤️

So I called them multiple times regarding the same question. But they had no answer. I turned in my application in April maybe a week after they opened the application. My status is still under review so I am pretty sure it is not first come first serve.

I don’t think it’s first come first serve. I applied on the last literal day the application was open and heard back the second day after the first round of finalist emails went out. I think they do a ranking system and go from there.
The explanation of having different people going through them and tiering the applicants based on basic criteria first makes sense. . .but I most definitely meet the basic criteria so I guess I'm just still confused - my EFC is 0, single with 4 children, I'm half-way through a ABSN program with a 3.75 (nursing school is no joke, and especially during COVID!) and I have 20 years of experience volunteering including Americorps. I'm trying to remain positive, and I am truly happy for all you amazing students who have reached the first level - schooling is difficult to begin with but the added stress of financing your education and paying bills while in school just tops it off. Good luck all!
