HRSA Nurse Corps Scholarship 2020-2021

Published

I havent seen a thread yet on this year's nurse corps application cycle & my anxiety has made me start one. I'm finishing up my application and should be done with it by today. I know its extremely competitive so honestly I dont think I'll get it but its worth a try! Who else has applied/is applying?

CONGRATS to all of those who received a finalist email! I received mine on 7/16! My ABSN program starts in mid August and I really cannot afford to go to the school without the scholarship. Should I start the program if I am a finalist? Does it mean we get the scholarship if there are no discrepancies? I called and they said if you are a finalist there is a “very good chance” you receive the scholarship. I’m just nervous! IDK if I should start this program without knowing if it’s 100% certain. Thoughts? Is anyone in the same situation?!

Any chance you were offered a federal loan that could help between now and then? I believe they pay that back for you if you receive the scholarship. If you can swing it, I would start the program if you have any means too. The scholarship is so competitive so you might not be offered it/make the finalist round again in the future. Goodluck, I hope everything works out for you!

Thanks for reaching out! Tuition is due September 2nd so maybe some finalists will hear before then? I just don’t want to go to this school if I don’t actually end up with the scholarship

I believe last year September 6th was the earliest people found out, up through September 30th

Y’all I just got a finalist email that I’ve been accepted for the Scholarship today at 6pm! They are absolutely still accepting people don’t lose hope! So thankful

But yes you get an allocated amount for those expenses. I’m not sure when they do that though and it’s for the year.

Thank you

Does anyone know how taxes on this scholarship work? I’m just kind of scared because I got in contact with someone who got the scholarship and she said she had $12,000 in tax debt. I called the scholarship hotline but the people didn’t really know anything about how the taxes work so it wasn’t very reassuring.

Yikes that much? I have no idea how that works! The scholarship seems worth it though

Nurse Corps would technically be your employer. When you’re employed you are taxed for any income you have, automatically most of the time. Since taxes will not be taken out automatically you will owe the IRS and whatever state you live in money at the end of the year. The tax will vary from state to state and city to city. The more money they give you. The more money you owe in tax. For example, say you live in a state that taxes you 5% of your income and the federal state tax is 10%. If they give you 50k for everything you need, you will owe $7500. But you are able to write school supplies off and then your t98 form from school so it generally will depend. You may have to just save extra a month for taxes or pull out a small loan, but again it will vary person to person. However, it is better than paying for nursing school out of pocket. Good luck everyone! My application is still under review ?

Does anyone know In what order they go through the applications?
