I havent seen a thread yet on this year's nurse corps application cycle & my anxiety has made me start one. I'm finishing up my application and should be done with it by today. I know its extremely competitive so honestly I dont think I'll get it but its worth a try! Who else has applied/is applying?
Does anyone know how to report the award for health insurance purposes? Tax wise it counts as income, but it’s allocated for school expenses. When you apply for healthcare for 2021 you have to report your estimated income and that affects your premium. I can’t really afford to continue a lovey $390 a month for that when I’ll have no additional income. Any thoughts?
Hi Everyone!
I just received my finalist email around 10am today!! I AM SO EXCITED. For those of you still waiting.. please don't lose hope! I thought I wouldn't get it because they did a credit check on me on the 17th and I hadn't heard back while many people on here got their finalist email the day of or the day after.
For those of you who did receive the finalist email.. I get the fall enrollment form is probably for this upcoming fall 2020 semester starting September, but what is the Summer enrollment form for? Is it for this current Summer semester (I started nursing school this May), or is it for the Summer semester coming up?? Thanks for your help!!

Congratulations!! Do you remember what contract period you put in your application? For example if you put June 2020 to June 2021, I would imagine they could reimburse for courses that start within that period. I would just have your school fill it out and under the term dates they could probably put whatever Summer sessions and then HRSA will determine what they fund. But if you give them a call they will tell you for sure. CONGRATS again!

Since taxes will not be taken out automatically you will owe the IRS and whatever state you live in money at the end of the year. The tax will vary from state to state and city to city. The more money they give you. The more money you owe in tax. For example, say you live in a state that taxes you 5% of your income and the federal state tax is 10%. If they give you 50k for everything you need, you will owe $7500. But you are able to write school supplies off and then your t98 form from school so it generally will depend. You may have to just save extra a month for taxes or pull out a small loan, but again it will vary person to person. However, it is better than paying for nursing school out of pocket. Good luck everyone! My application is still under review ?
Oh OK that makes sense. Thank you!

You can look up the federal tax brackets to estimate how much you’ll owe. I believe if you make around $40k or in this case the scholarship is that amount, the federal tax rate is 23% and so on. I’m not sure if it comes out right away or not. In the guidance document it says they will withhold federal taxes and the FICA tax. It then says if not enough are taken out, than you’ll owe it to the IRS. So I guess it all depends on the W4. It’s still a fraction of what school will cost.
